Is anyone here aware of a common modification that allows for the conversion of the ejectors on a Beretta 686 to be converted to extractors? I don't want anyone grinding on my new shotgun, but I am interested if it only involves part changes like springs and such. If it is a common change, then I bet someone here knows about it. Educate me please.

Update 4/28...
Here is the answer I got from COLE GUNSMITHING.

Jerry,
We will have to modify your forend levers, unfortunately it is not as easy as changing a few parts. the cost for this is approx 45.00 and all we will need your forend only.

The SV-10, which is based on the 68X series guns has a simple screw adjustment that a half turn allows you to change it from ejector to extractor

perhaps you should call Rich Cole in Maine - he is THE man on Beretta, from custom guns and stocks to repairs and modifications

The Remington Spartan 310 my son used also had the selector screw. I thought it was a nice feature. Nothing in the my Beretta manual mentions that feature nor do I find a screw. Thanks for the tip. I will google Rich Cole and try to come up with a phone number or email address.

I am not specifically familar with the Beretta but most ejectors have their own springs.*
Take out the springs and you still get extraction by cam action.
I did that to my old Verney Carron SxS for Cowboy, which does not allow ejectors on doubles.

For Trap and Skeet, I soon learned to cup my hand over the breech as I opened the gun to catch the ejected empties.

*Yup, Mr Cole has a parts diagram and there is a spring and plunger behind each extractor. Take that out... maybe he will furnish directions... and you are down to plain extraction.

It is an OLD Verney Carron, much used and later neglected, that came back as war loot to a coworker who had been in the Occupation. I figure he confiscated it from a German who confiscated it from a Frenchman. Zero finish on wood or metal, some roughness in and out; checkering worn about 2/3 down from sheer carrying and handling. All I did to it for CAS was to take out the ejector springs and have the chokes let out to about .006" constriction. I sure did not saw it off into a dadgum coach gun.
