My Beretta .22LR Conversion Kit arrived yesterday, and I was able to get to the indoor range today for a quick "function check." In a word, I'm impressed!
The kit arrived in a Beretta hard case, which is a nice touch. The quality of the kit's fit and finish is equivalent to all the Beretta pistols I've ever owned or seen... i.e. very good. Before going to the range, all I did was ensure the barrel's bore was clean, and then clean and lubricate the slide rails. The kit goes together intuitively, and the fit to my 92FS was superb.
At the range, the first shot of any new pistol is always "interesting," but in this case it was anti-climatic. The pistol simply went "bang" and the hole in the target (from 7 yards initially) was pretty close to where I aimed. The next nine rounds landed very close to the first round, resulting in a 2" group. It appears the sights need to be adjusted (to move the group to the right and down a bit), but that's not unusual for any new gun. I also fired at 25 yards to see what the grouping would be like. It's obvious the conversion does not make the 92FS a dedicated "target gun", but proved itself more than adequate for plinking. However, I might be taking the 92FS to my local gunsmith for a trigger job now...
I proceeded to fire a total of 100 CCI Blaser .22LR rounds downrange without a single hiccup. I haven't installed the D spring on my 92FS yet, so it'll be interesting to see if that mod makes any difference to reliability. I'm also looking forward to taking it to the outdoor range and seeing how the conversion kit performs at 50 and 100 yards.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this purchase. I can now use my 92FS with inexpensive bulk ammo .22LR for some cheap "trigger time" and know that I'm still working with the same trigger pull, and similar sights and safety. Life is good!
