Beretta 9000 S?

My brother just bought a Beretta 9000S today and when I was handling it, I noticed that if the safety lever is pushed too far up, the hammer goes down, even with a mag in the gun.

Is this normal for the gun to do this or is it a problem that should be fixed?

Would this cause a round in the chamber to go off if the safety is pushed too far up and the hammer falls?

Are there any other problems that should be looked for.

The gun was used but it appears to be in very good condition.

Its normal. Its an improvement on the Taurus 92 system in that you can't accidentally decock the hammer when removing the safety, but can decock by pushing up past safe.

You can carry cocked and locked, decocked with the safety on, or decocked with the safety off.

I like this feature.

The rest of the gun though is close, but no cigar -- too thick in the slide and safety levers for comfortable carry. But it makes a nice car gun for my wife.

This design has a firing pin safety and IIRC, the hammer stops short of fully down when decocked. IOW, the only way this could go off when decoking is if the firing pin safety and the hammer stop fails simultaneously. Or if somebody bubba'd it. Nevertheless, you should take it to the range and test the safeties and the decockers (as well as the overall function of the gun) before loading it loading it up for carry.

I have one. Nice gun. Accurate. Just a little wide. Bought mine new for $300 when they were in production.
