I know this is an issue that is probably beaten to death but bear with me: I like the Beretta 92/96 series because they handled really well when i shot them, and they are easy to disassemble and maintain in terms of autoloaders. HOwever, i also really like 1911's. I've had good experiences with a taurus pt1911 at our local shooting range, and you can't beat a .45 ACP in my mind.
I'm stuck in a rut between the two and i'm looking to get one before the elections, just in case.

Any advice is appreciated

They're both good guns.

That said, I'd think that the Beretta might be a better hedge against coming elections. Single stack 1911s only hold 7 or 8 rounds (unless you want a mag that protrudes like crazy). The Beretta has one of those evil mags that holds more than 10 rounds. If we see another AWB with magazine limits, it isn't likely to affect the 1911. It will affect the Beretta and any other gun with mags that hold over 10 rounds.

If Osama wins the 92 would be the gun in danger of going away because of the higher capacity. Get the 92 now, you can always pick up a 1911.

Ah who am I kidding, if either loser wins the 92 would be the gun in danger of going away because of the higher capacity. Get the 92 now, you can always pick up a 1911.

cpirtle brings up a good point, howeve i am not a fan of the 92 series berettasand i am not a fan of da/sa guns. i love the 1911, i own one and i plan to own more in the future. the twp guns that you want are totally different that is for sure. on my personal likes and dislikes i would take the 1911.

I don't own a 92 but have a da/sa high capacity 9mm that is similar. And I have the Taurus PT1911. They are definitely on opposite ends of the spectrum, but I can see someone (like me,ha,ha) wanting one of each. Get the double stack now while they are plentiful. I have seen Bud's run a pretty good special price on them this summer.

I could probably have also added that the now-defunct 10 round limit (federal, it still exists in some unfortunate locations) was likely one of the things spurring the popularity and development of the 1911 in recent times. If you can only hold 10 rounds, you may as well hold the biggest ten you can manage. A 9mm with nearly 20 rounds doesn't look as attractive when you halve the capacity (sure, it's a good gun, but the capacity argument is negated).

I don't know if we'll see another magazine capacity limit, but if I were to buy guns to hedge against it, I would be buying the "high capacity" ones right now.

The Beretta 92/96 has been a time-tested classic arm renowned for reliability and quality that can hold 17+1 with an after market flush mag. You can't make that statement about the Taurus 1911.

I have a PT1911, and a Beretta 96. Both are good, but I carry the Taurus because it is more comfortable in a IWB holster. The Beretta is too thick for me. Both are good shooters.

Neither.

I would buy the Taurus PT92 over the Beretta because I prefer the location of the safety on the Taurus. The Taurus has been around for 20 years or more and very few have ever had issues. I really dislike the location and operation of the slide mounted Beretta safety.

If I were to buy a 1911, I would look at several other equally priced brands long before I bought the Taurus 1911. Springfield and RIA top the list of budget 1911s IMHO.

I own both, And would recomend both. If I had to choose just 1 to buy, Pay for the less expensive of the two, and charge or layaway the other, you really do need them both. It would be to hard on you to have to make a choice.?
Have fun, be safe, go shooting.

ps, taurus pt92 a little less money than the beretta, you could afford both easier. If you get in trouble for buying both,, you are welcome to blame me this time. lol
