It's a buddies gun and you can wiggle the barrel around at the end of the slide. He was talking about getting a bushing machined to slip on the end of the barrel but I'm thinking (without taking it apart) that the barrel needs replacing. It was a former buy back and well used. I'm betting its loose where the barrel dovetails in. I'm a revolver guy so I'm not to sure. Thanks, X

First of all, you need to determine if accuracy is affected.

It should hold about a 4" group at 25yds.

Second of all, as mentioned, the 92 is designed that way. There are ways to eliminate it, so do your research first. That link provided is a great place to start. It may not fit in some holsters as a result, however.

Yes, tightening it can increase accuracy and reduce dependability. I'd go check some other 92s and determine if it's normal. If it is, I'd leave it alone; if not, I'd start looking to fix the gun. I had a 92 years ago and don't recall that was a problem. Before the military settled on it, everyone raved about what a great gun it was. Now I hear complaints about the action, the grips, the size. None of those bothered me when I had mine. Mine ate everything it was fed, carried more ammo than I could afford and could be stuffed into my pants waist and stay put. Still, I don't like anything rattling around.

Most of the 92's in my armory have a lot of barrel play including mine and I continuely hit 49 or 50 out of 50 on quals.

My experience with M-9s is about 4" @ 25 yards. Not great by today's standards, but acceptable for a combat handgun. However, if it's old, he might consider a new barrel anyway. That makes more sense than some improvised bushing system. He might get a new barrel and find that it has a little bit of rattle too.

check with jarvis custom, they are the pioneers in taking the play out of the beretta barrel. jarvis made me a barrel to convert my glock 20 to .40 s&w. it was perfect!
