I'm filling out paperwork for a Beretta 92FS this weekend. Love the gun, have shot it a lot at the range. I've done a few searches, haven't found too much info, but I wanted to know if anyone here has bought the conversion kits?

I've heard good things about the Ciener .22 conversion, which I'll probably get down the road for fun and savings.

But has anyone bought the 96 .40 slide and barrel and mounted it?

Is the Beretta 9_ frame exactly the same on both guns in their regular production? Any downside to the .40? I had heard from one person that the accuracy wasn't great.

The thought of one frame with 3 options is really appealing, but I was wondering if anyone had experience going from 9mm to .40 and if it was trouble free shooting?

The one write up I found through search did put it in a very positive light.

I asked this question in another forums a few weeks ago. But it was taking a 96 and dropping a 92 barrel and slide. My thinking was it would be great to switch back and forth. Just like your question. The response I got was the extractor is on the frame and it would have to be changed. I don't know about going to 22.

Well, the extractor is on the slide and pulls the empty casing out during recoil in all cases (9mm 92, .40S&W 96, and .22LR conversion), so as long as you use the full conversion (slide, barrel, magazine) in each case, you should be fine. The ejector is mounted on the frame, but that should be fine in each case as well.

I personally haven't tried this, but it seems reasonable that it should work--after all, Beretta made the 92F parts compatible with other 92s (i.e. 92D, 92G, 92DS), I don't see why they wouldn't have used the same parts for the 96 or even the 98.

One day, I'd like to try this...

I brought it up because I saw someone selling just the side, barrel, conversion, etc (basically everything but the frame) of a 96 and saying that it could mount on the 92 frame.

I think also Beretta had a special commemorative edition that was a Beretta 96 that came with the 92 slide, but there was something different. Like the 92's barrel didn't extend past the slide or something.

Anyways, I've heard of it being done, but just want to find someone who has done it to see if there are any problems.

I have the M9 version and I just purchased a 96 slide, barrel, and magazine. It all fits together ok, but I havent attempted to shoot it yet. I'll report back after I try it out.

I have seen Beretta 92 pistols for sale at dealers that come with both a 9mm and .40 slide. I didn't look to see if it was actually a 92 or 96 frame but it did come from the factory with both slides.
