Beretta Px4 Storm - Pros & Cons?

I have a Compact 9mm.

Aside from the external safety, I like shooting it. Handles well. Sights are good. 17+1 capacity is a plus. Recoil is easily manageable. Easy to field strip and reassemble.

I like my guide rod, and like Glocks, I find no need in accessories - except night sights.

I own a beretta PX4 Storm in .45 caliber. I personally love the gun. There are a couple of features I don't prefer. I think the size of the gun is just too big. Maybe my hands are too small but pulling the trigger is a little awkward especially after the first first and I'm resetting the trigger. The recoil is not bad and easily controllable with the proper grip. The only main other issue I have is that it seems to shoot a little high on my gun. I had several friends shoot too and they shot high as well. I even move targets closer to test more and we figured that the gun had to be aimed at the bottom of a target and, depending on the distance, possibly lower that that. This could be just my gun. I have not fired it enough to make a complete review but I will be back at the range tomorrow shooting plenty of rounds out of it. I will do some more tests and through practice gain a complete review to post again for you. Overall, for now, though I love the gun! I am a gun collector though so I love most guns unless they are just absolutely awful...

Are you using the small backstrap insert on the handle?

I like my SubCompact PX4 much better than the SR9c it replaced. Carry's well and fits my hand well.

Very accurate too.
I've been carrying the PX4 more often lately than my P238 and can find nothing that I don't like about it. :)

I have the middle size one. I have tried many times to take off the backstrap but was unsuccessful.

Exchanging the backstrap is not particularly easy with the PX4. It took me about 15 to 20 minutes to swap it out the first time. If I recall, the user manual has a couple of illustrations on how to swap out one of the other sizes. The steel u-shaped clip is a pain to remove. This is one issue with the PX4 that I wish Beretta had put more thought into while designing this piece. Other autos' backstraps are usually a lot easier to swap out.

I got to try the Full Size and Sub-compact side by side today (held in hand - not range shooting). The Full size is noticeable easier to rack the slide than the sub-compact.

Now if only I could find a compact to try. I am hoping it is more like the full size in ease of slide racking so my 11 y/o can use it as well.

Anyone know if the Compact is more like the full size or sub-compact in terms of slide racking resistance?

I would assume the Compact is more like the Fullsize than the Sub, since the Fullsize and Compact use the rotating locking action and the Sub does not.

I have had a full size 9mm PX4 for almost a year now and love it. The only issue I have had is that the magazines don't drop freely. Has anyone else had this issue with their PX4?

Another full size PX4 Type F owner here. It's a great gun and shoots very well. I'm nursing a scraped thumb right now from trying to get the U-Clip out to replace the grip last night. I echo the other comments regarding that design.

I'm sure it's the size of my hands, but it's a bit of a stretch to engage the safety/decocker with the thumb of my shooting hand. Putting the smaller grip on appears to have helped, but time will tell.

All that said, I've got a couple thousand rounds through it consisting of factory loads and reloads. Unit went bang every time.

I've had (well, my wife has) a 9mm PX4 G model for a few years now. It is excellent. It shoots much like my 92FS, but with a lighter DA pull. Capacity is excellent for its size.

I like them, but not enough to buy one. I really don't like the balance. I haven't shot one in a few years, but I remember thinking that the gun felt somewhat muzzle heavy to me. I also don't really think of bruniton as being a premium finnish. If I got one, I'd consider getting it refinished with something different.

I prefer the M&P and the XD pistols over the PX4 pistols. That being said, I think that they are very good quality guns. If you like DA/SA pistols, they are very solid choices.

From my experience the cons are:
1)very tight chambers on some examples meaning FTFs with some brands of ammo;
2)sights not always adjusted well from factory.

I personally don't like the position of the decocker, for that reason I prefere the G version because I don't want the possibility of an accidental engage of the safety in a hurry.

i have had personal experience with a couger in 40s&w
it was not a reliable gun (at least 1 hiccup every 2 mags)
it is one of only 2 pistols ive seen malfunction (other was a 380 sigma)

My question overall is about some customizing to them. I noticed some of the posts showed customized PX4 storms. I was wondering what all have people done to them to help with feel and just for the heck of having the attachment. I am interested in changing the sights out for it but don't know the process, cost, the amount of hazzle, the danger of it not being sighted properly, and the websites to go that have great upgrades that fit the PX4 Storm. I have a full size in 45 caliber. Lastly can the back sights be adjusted or are they just stuck the way they are? Thanks for the help!

I does seem more difficult to find "custom" aftermarket stuff for the PX4. As far as night sights, Trijicon and Meprolight make night sights for the PX4.

trijicon-beretta-px4-storm-3-dot-front-rear-night-sight-set-be10.html

Trijicon sights for $115

Meprolight sights for $82

I sent my slidder out to Tooltech and they installed the trijicon night sights. The turn around time was about 2.5 weeks. http://www.tooltechgunsight.com/

I have a few 1,000 rounds thru my 9m compact PX4. It is a great gun to shoot, very smooth action, low kickback. The only thing I don't like about it is is too large for me to deep cc.

Steve Bedair at http://guiderod.com/ But he is not taking orders right now. He's working on a large project of some sort. I sure he will let you know when he will be talking orders again, if you email him. He's a very cool guy and does a great job.
