The other day at the range I rented a Beretta Storm, after all the hype I figured I would give it a try. The Fit and Finish was nice and it shouldered well. Unfortunately the battery in the Red-Dot was dead so I had to use the iron sights. The flip up sights were crude but servicable, still given the quality put into the rest of the furniture you would think they could put better sights on it.

Thinking "well they ARE 'Backup Sights'" I loaded and inserted a mag, shouldered the rifle, closed the bolt, took it off safe and pulled the trigger. I then checked to make sure I had acctually taken the safe off, re-shouldered the rifle, clenched my teeth, and pulled with all my might...BANG!

This trigger was BAD! I mean the stock trigger on my home-built FAL was not as bad as this. Well I buckled down and worked my way throught the entire box of ammo (I don't own a 9mm). It was almost more of a punishment to shoot that rifle. The plus side was that it was quite accurate, but I just couldn't get over that bad trigger. I took the rifle back to the counter and the range officer saw the look on my face and said "Yeah, we call it the 'Limp Noddle'".

Mabey I am spoiled by the triggers on my guns, but I cannot see paying over $500 for a gun that is this unpleasnt to shoot. Can anything be done to save an otherwise good rifle?

How about the Hi-Point carbine? I have seen the ATI stock that looks just like the Storm, is the hi-point trigger better and is it accurate enough?

I know a couple of people who love the high point with the ATI stock, and they have noted the whole rig is about half the price of the beretta.

I've never had that experience with my Storm or others I've used...who knows.

The trigger breaks nice and crisp.

I wonder if anyone will make an aftermarket trigger for that gun.

Mike

Really, Billy?

I hope it was just that one (It is the only one I have fired). I have fired other Beretta pistols and shotguns and they all had very good actions. I was dissapointed that Beretta would turn out a product that bad. Like I said, that was the only one that I have fired, but I have heard others talk about the poor trigger on the storm.

I am thinking That I might save a few hundered $$ and get the Hi-Point, that way if the trigger is bad I am not out so much $$.

A bunch of us bought them about two years ago. Our group experience is that the trigger pull initially was pretty bad but smoothed up quite a bit with use. Maybe yours was new or possibly very dirty. We also found that the sights, while they looked crude, were fairly easy to use and gave good results. Not competition accuracy quality, but good for a service-type rifle.

Well that raises my hopes a little. It may have been a bad/dirty range gun, just the guys at the range talked like it had been that way since day one. Unfortunately they are the only rental range in town so not much chance of a second opinion shoot.

I am glad to hear that not all the rifles are as bad as this one was.

Was it just the trigger that you didn't like? You said it was unpleasant to shoot and that the Range Safety Officer called it the limp noodle. Does that me that the stock flexed under recoil making it a less than comfortable shooting experience?

No it was mainly the trigger, the "Limp Noodle" was an Italian made/pasta joke.

It shot well and I was able to make 2" groups at 50' (indoor pistol range). The trigger was just soo bad that, even shooting well was not fun. It was long, gritty, and heavy. I have had cap-guns with crisper triggers than this rifle had.

If other CX4's have better triggers then I will give them a favorable review, this one was just the "trigger from hell."

Fink...

I bought one earlier this year, and have had no gripes. It sounds to me as if you were given a real 'beater' by the range staff, and then they blamed the gun for their own lack of maintenance on the piece. Maybe they took it in trade from a customer who really beat the snot out of it while he had it, and they just never bothered to 'tweak' it before putting it in the rental rack. Or maybe they saw that it was so beat that's why it's available for rental in the first place. Food for thought.

...My 9mm Hi-Point shoots WWB groups of 1"- 1.5" @ 25 yards. Gun, ATI stock and cheap reflex sight cost about $250.00. It's by far the most fun firearm I've had in years.

I hear ya on being trigger spoiled.

My .50 is so crisp and light, all I have to do is think about it and bang. I can't get over it. When I let others shoot it at the range I have them dry fire it so they know what it's about, and they all say wow.

The cx4 sounds like the trigger was on my benelli nova. complete udder junk. It took me about 2 hrs and 4 trys to get that one right with the file. now its compareable to a good 870. I'm satisfied

:banghead: to bad triggers, throwing off ones game.

I have 2 a 9mm & a 45 both work flawlessly with nice trigers the only thing I don't like is the no Hi-caps for the 45 :scrutiny:

I've heard that complaint about its trigger several times.

The hi-point is a great little carbine, and definitely worth it for the money, but a fine trigger ain't on its list of good qualities.

I checked out a Storm in .45ACP a while back.

Your review was spot-on: trigger was really bad.

Then I looked at the price tag & thought to myself, "Self, for that kind of money, you can get an entry-level AR15 with a detatchable carry handle M-4gery. And shoot 5.56mm for cheaper than .45ACP."

I am glad that most folks who bought them got ones with good triggers. Maybe the ones with bad triggers don't sell?

My CX4 has a good trigger, definitely not a match trigger, but certainly not gritty or overly heavy.

It's a bit of a pain to strip the CX4 down to the trigger group (though it's a breeze for the rest) so maybe that's why some rental guns had issues - they weren't maintained properly.

This site does CX4 trigger mods and also has photo instructions for stripping the CX4 all the way down: http://www.tacticalexcellence.com/

My wife and I have a little Beretta joke where we shout out their "500 Years, One Passion!" line like hardcore Beretta fanboys.

I bought a 9mm Storm two years ago. The trigger was awful. It has smoothed out a little but it is still isn't good. And the stock was too short. And the iron sights were too small for me.

I added an extra whatever to the stock to increase the length, and put on a red dot sight. It made for a much better gun.

I have a 9mm Beretta CX4 Storm with a few hundred rounds through it. Just shot it yesterday. And yes, horrible trigger. Although I love the gun otherwise. I'm going to send it off to Tactical Excellence and get a trigger job.

The gun is somewhat expensive for what it is, but it uses my Beretta 92 mags and is lightweight and TINY. It comes with spacers for the stock, and I removed all of them and the whole gun is around 30" long. No folding stocks, just a tiny fun to shoot gun (other than the trigger). So I'm looking forward to getting the trigger tuned and having a REAL Beretta. Even thinking of getting a Storm in .45ACP as well, just because I like the package so much (and I have a Beretta 8045, so there is that pistol/carbine pairing again).

I have handled several Storms and all of them had triggers that varied from ehhhh to VP70. I like the Storm well enough but the triggers are bad in my exp.
