Bergara B14R, 1st Ammo Test

As I said in another post, ammo testing is going to be abbreviated for this one, cause there's just not much in-stock. So I tested what I had for a couple groups before the storm came in a few minutes ago. SK LR (left 2 tgts) and Lapua LR (R 2 TGTs):



Both printed under .5" at 50. The top SK LR Group at .4500" is actually 8rds, w cold bore shot as I was trying to get my Labradar set up to read .22LR. Finally gave up on positioning it and used the remote vibration trigger and that worked like a charm.

The overall winner is the Lapua LR with a .189" and .3485", but the SK, being much cheaper, will work for practice. The .189" Lapua group was shot right after shooting the SK, without refouling the barrel or wiping it. I wanted to shoot more and further, but the sky turned dark, the wind picked up dramatically and a storm arrived. Discretion being the better part of valor, I tucked tail and headed up to the house.

Rifle is a basic B14R with TriggerTech Diamond installed and an Area419 weighted Arca rail. Scope is a Vortex PST 5-25x50.




I'm still trying to get the rifle to balance, even with the weighted rail, two weights on the front end, and some adhesive wheel weights in the forearm, it's still slightly butt heavy. Next mod will be a barrel tuner (suggestions??) as it will add a little weight up front and help ease the supply chain issues.

I have the Gen I EC Tuner, seems to work. I have an ATS tuner, haven't tried it yet. It won't/can't get crud build up in it like the EC Gen I.

BTW, what are you guys using for practice ammo???

I like the SK Long Range, but it's no where to be found now. Just ordered a brick of Norma TAC22 as I've read that it's OK for practice.

SK standard plus shot very well in my Bergara and is half the price of the Center X I was shooting in matches. SK Long Range also shot well and comes closer to the Center X speed, so both were good for practice. SK Rifle Match shot pretty well, but had the worst fliers/what the heck shots of all of them in my Bergara.

I’ve been shooting Lapua Long Range in the Vudoo pictured with the ATS tuner (without the tuner), and it’s faster than any of those, but you just have to make another gun with the cheaper ammo for dope when practicing

When I get home I’ll check my bookmarks for SK LR and Standard Plus.
