But he has a RIA 1911, the Glock of 1911s with enlarged flared chamber mouth that will even reliably feed sloppy SWC reloads.
My Sig 1911 has tightest chamber barrel I know of and no leade. Yet will reliably feed Lee 200 gr SWC TL. My friend's RIA 1911 Tactical fed rounds that would fail in my Sig barrel.
I have/had the same problems with my P220. With the P220 you can feel how the SWC's shoulder hooks before it loads into the chamber. I tested both RN and SWC rounds back to back by riding the slide, and was definitely able to feel the difference.
The bullets I was loading was the Xtreme 200gr SWC's. I played around a bit with the COL, but couldn't really feel any improvement by changing the COL. The last loads I tested did not result in any failures to feed, but I'm not sure if I just go lucky, or found the correct COL for the bullet. One of the loads I tested actually grouped very well, and no failure to feeds. I did have some issues with the chrono though:
Thanks for posting the link. I have seen some good accuracy in 200gr bullets in 45acp, but probably need to try out some 185gr bullets also. Here is another link to an article about a very accurate load in 45acp using a 185gr bullet.
I think the OP would be better off to shoot up his plated hollowbase bullets for short range fast draw practice. Flipflopping powder is a random process and I don't find it to have a large effect anyhow.
I will have to get some, but it looks like the smallest order is 1000. Usually not adverse to this, but I have a lot of .45 ACP bullets on hand.
Guess I should quite whinning and go use up some bullets.
