Berry's Bullets - No lead surcharge anymore.

I just order 500 .357 bullets and was happy to see that they no longer apply a lead surcharge.

Thought I'd let you guys know.

there was a very similarly named thread covering this recently.... seemed like they split the difference from when there really wasn't a surcharge and when there was not a whole lot of difference i think:uhoh:

Hummm, I can't recall how much the bullets cost with the surcharge, so I don't if they raised the bullet prices to make up the difference now that the surcharge is gone.

I just bought 500 of them from Cabelas. They were 85.98 delivered.

About .17 cents a piece.

They are beautiful bullets but they do seem a little expensive.

Ouch, that would blow my ammo budget right out the window, since I've been known to blaze away up to 500rnds in a single practice session, up to 3 times per week.

When I started casting my own, at the time, it hardy seemed worth while, as lead bullets were under $20/500.

But lead was also plentiful, with plenty of businesses only too happy, for me to come and 'take' scrap lead off their hands. ie used (pre-zinc)wheel weights etc from tire dealers.

My how things have changed, with the whole 'save the planet' issue.
Lead is now either 'a precious and valued commodity' or 'the sole cause of the earth's eminant destruction'. Depending on who you listen to.

I think alot of bullet makers got caught with large stocks of lead, as the base metal lead price was climbing rapidly, and didn't count on the price to plummet. Now they're trying to still make a profit on a high raw materials cost, they stocked up on.

Once that stock is depleted and supply catches back up to demand, (thanks and no thanks to the resent election result).

We should see a competetive market again, and prices should fall, maybe not to what they were, with higher costs now, due to shipping increases & wages etc.

Did you compare Cabela's price to ordering direct from Berry's? This summer I called Berry's, they were a few $ cheaper than Cabela's, and no extra charge for shipping.

The only way you really come out right is to order in lots of 1,000. The price break is greater there and the shipping is going to be pretty much the same. I try to order my bullets from Berry's in 10,000 round lots, and that brings the price way down.

Hope this helps.

If you order 500 from Cabelas or Grafs, you'll get the bullets in a bag for a higher price.

If you order 500 from Berry, you'll get a lower price and a nice plastic snap closure box.

I guess I could have saved 5 bucks at Berry's but at least I did get the plastic boxes. :p
