I probably have a 3 or 4 K of .45 bullets but am almost out of two of my favorite ones. The Berry's 185 SWC and the Berry's 200 HP. I though I would go ahead and order 1 K of each before the new year when prices are supposed to go up substantially. I went to their website and the price was not up a lot, yet. So, I put 1 K of each in the cart expecting to see an additionally $10 or $15 per 1 K lead surcharge like my last purchase.

:what: $67 lead surcharge for the 2 K of bullets. H*** S*** :what:

I checked and can buy Zero jacketed a bit cheaper. I am going to have to shop around. I may find they are not all that far out of line and purchase them anyway. After all, I really do like those two. :banghead:

I may be forced to go back to lead, or worse still, start casting again with salvaged range bullets and wheelweights. :uhoh:

I hear you. I've been comparison shopping on the internet, and I decided to just order lead SWCs from Cabela's for my next batch. Although I'd like to move to plated bullets, I couldn't justify the added expense on the Berry's.

I wonder how many people get whacked by the Berry's surcharge. When I oredered from them a while back it didn't show anywhere on the online order. At least it sounds like they tell you on the order now but I don't know why they don't just adjust the prices like everyone else.

Go down to your local tax office and start “yourlastnamehere enterprises” with a tax code that has something to do with firearms, gun smith, is a good choice. Then send the manufactures a copy of the tax cert when they ask for your FFL, and explain that you only work on firearms and sell reloading components. It doesn’t take very long at all to off set the time it takes to fill out the paper work. Between Berry’s, Midway and Brownells I’ve saved $1000’s over the years. Just remember you have to file no taxes collected each year (over the phone here in TX).

try cabela's for berry's bullets. you don't get hit with the surcharge.
Unless I am missing something, they don't have to. They are substantially higher than getting them from Berry's, surcharge and all.

I have found that I can buy Zero FMJ and Win bulk FMJ bullets cheaper than plated lately. Do you think the plating process adds that much extra? Berry's has been talking to a lot of people on Glock Talk lately about pricing and ideas for new bullets. Maybe they will realize they need to drop the prices if they want to compete.

I think mostly what we're seeing here is prices skyrocketing all across the board, but it's happening unevenly. Some manufacturers had more stock on hand or better commodities contracts, and so were able to hold the price line a little longer.
All bullet manufacturers are at the mercy of a materials market that defies description. Some placed better bets than others.
While Berry's way to incorporate the prices rising faster than paper price lists can keep up can be confusing, it's just another way.
As I recall, at this moment, Berry's .45/230 price is almost the same as Cabela's price for the equivalent Rainers, about eleven cents.
It would be true that Cabelas' price for the Berry's is high, because they only carry the small 250-count boxes now, and not the 1000-count boxes you would normally order from Berry's.

I noticed that winchester fmj was cheaper than Raniers plated last time I ordered from Midway. I used to buy the raniers for alot less than everything else but not any more. They are good bullets but they are getting a little too proud of themselves in their prices.

Amen.

Raniers used to be not much more than lead and way less than jacketed. It can not possably be as much to make them as jacketed, yet, like you say, you can get some jacketed cheaper now.
