Please respond if you have a Bersa thunder 9 pro HC with a 17 mag capacity. I am thinking about buying one and would like to hear about the pro and cons on this pistol. Thanks, Hank3

Good Evening,

I've had one for several years and have been satisfied. It is reliable, fits my hand well, super-easy to field strip, and has easy to work controls. It is not expensive and I think it looks good. Mine has a rail. The version just a couple of years prior to mine doesn't. All in all it is a very good pistol.

Bersa does use a different sight picture than most. You are supposed to cover the target with the front sight, not have a 6 o'clock hold. I'm still not quite used to this (or maybe I'm just doing it wrong. Perhaps another Bersa user can give better advise than I can.) so I tend to shoot low. The group size is on par with other semi-autos I shoot in that the gun is capable of better than me.

I like the DA/SA action. I haven't shot a striker fired pistol enough to know if it is better but right now my Bersa seems to have a nice trigger in SA and I like seeing hammer back to know it's cocked and the snap forward of the hammer if I decide to engage the decocker/safety.

Do you have specific questions?

Good luck.

Dan

Triggers DA/SA

Thanks Dan, Do you know what the trigger pull weights are for DA and SA? Hank

I have some experience with the Ultra Compact version which isn't very compact but that's another story. I think these Bersa Thunder 9mm pistols are a good choice if you are looking for a hammer fired DA/SA. Most of the choices in this category like SIG and HK are much more expensive. What is interesting about the Thunder is the safety/decocker is mounted on the frame and pushes up. One of the main criticisms of guns like the Beretta is the slide mounted safety.

Sorry Hank 3, I don't know the trigger weights.
The double action is "a good, solid pull" while the single action trigger is "nice and light". How's that for scientific?!

MAKster - I have trouble with slide mounted controls on a full sized pistol. My right thumb is a bit short due to a childhood accident and the slide mounted safety on the M9 would be a problem for me. If I wanted to go that route I'd get the Taurus version, which moves the safety/decocker to the frame.
And yes, I've got a Bersa 9mm Ultra Compact as well and I think something got mixed up in the Spanish to English translation. It is a great pistol but it doesn't really qualify as "Ultra Compact"!

My HC has over 5K through it. I had one failure to feed when I shot 1K with no cleaning to torture test it. That is the only malf I have ever had with the HC.
The trigger on mine has smoothed out and is the best of all my DA/SA pistols, the SA especially is very smooth and light.
I also have two UCs that each have over 1K through them with no malfs.
Buy the HC, you won't be disappointed, I really like mine a lot.

I have been trying to get one in my hands but none of the gun shops have them. Also , not one at 2 gun shows either. I have seen 3 videos that has praised this pistol a great deal , and some say it is very similar to the Walther P 88. I prefer DA/SA pistols over the newer striker guns , so Monday I will probably get my dealer to order one for me. Thanks for the comments. Hank
