Alright. The Bersa Thunder 9 is really what I wanted when I had just gotten serious about handguns. These things are nearly impossible to find, in my experiences anyway:banghead:. Discouraged about this, I got a sweet deal on the Smith and Wesson 40 Sigma. Good gun, strait shooting and no jams so far. Not very good ergonomics with my small hands and no manual safety. I've found myself hunting for that beloved Bersa once again:rolleyes:. I think I've found one. I've heard nothing bad about this weapon that I can recall. If anyone has any objections, please speak now. I really like the looks and the reputation of this firearm.

I second that. The Thinder 9 is a fine pistol. I also agree tha you should visit www.bersatalk.com; a good forum with lots of helpful information. Someone trhere wil likely point you in the right direction to find one.

Well, if you buy a Bersa, you'll get a lot of weird looks from gun snobs who can't imagine price isn't proportional to quality. But it often isn't. Automatics especially don't need to be expensive. I just don't think there's anywhere for the money to go in an automatic pistol. The things that make them work don't take a lot of money.

Revolvers are different. There's lots of places for the money to go on the inside of a revolver and a $5000 Korth is better than a $700 S&W which is better than a $300 Rossi. But that doesn't mean the Rossi isn't good enough.

Well, the gun was still there when I looked yesterday so I pouced on it. This will be my carry gun as I am now a permit carrier. This is the ultra compact model. Can't wait to put some rounds through it. Can anyone advise me as to how to get a hold of an extra magazine? I would think I'd have to contact Eagle Importers, right?

I owned a Firestorm UC9, which is essentially a Bersa. Sweet shooting gun, you will really like it. Yes gun snobs will say this or that, but more than likely they have never shot one. Bersatalk is a great site, join it you'll like it.

next,the real thing.

@lechiffre
Sorry, that's a snobbish comment..."real thing"

Honestly, I'd rather have the Bersa. Those Argentine pistols have a very solid reputation, good ergonomics, and you don't pay extra for the Walther brand. Too, I'm not convinced the Walther name pays reliablity dividends either.

My only impression of a modern Walther was at a Louis Awerbuck class last year - a gentleman brought one for the weekend. The gun was quite finicky and, according to Louis, had an exceptionally poor trigger. I remember several functional issues and multiple failures to extract. Not saying all walthers are that way (could have been ammo too), but their name doesn't mean all that much to me.

I agree, no one was asking about Walthers on this thread. Noe one could tell the difference if they were shot with a Walther or a Bersa you paid MUCH less for.

I had a Bersa 9mm. It was one of my first carry guns. It was a fine shooter and it was very reliable. It was a bit picky about what type of ammo it liked. It was much more accurate with some loads than others. But it fed everything and was more than accurate enough with the right ammo. I don't care for the sights and there is a total vacuum of aftermarket sights and accessories for the Bersa's. It's a shame really.
