Hello everyone,

I'm new here, so I hope I posted this in the right thread. Anyway, I wanted to know what your opinions on a purchase I've been thinking about making. It is a a Bersa Thunder .380 duotone in good condition and 1,000 rounds of remington and winchester ammo for $500. Is this a good deal or not; and furthermore, are Bersas any good. If I get the gun it will be used primarily for ccw and plinking, and maybe home protection since my CZ 52 isn't too reliable.

I have the bersa 380 c.c. Great gun never had a problem, accurate, nice concealed carry.
I paid around $300.00 new in box with extra magazine. So for your deal I would go for it
You are getting around $275.00 in ammo.Good luck.

I have owned 2 for about 10 years, and usually have at least one close by if I am not carrying it. Both are totally reliable, never having a FTF. Wouldn't ever consider letting either of them go.

I love mine.... It's a Thunder 380 CC model in all nickel finish.

I think I paid about $200 used for it, I am glad I did! It looks pretty nice, shoots great, and that trigger will really surprise you.

Mine has minor issues feeding Gold Dot ammo sometimes, but I only use ball ammo in a .380 for SD anyway.

Thinking of getting a bersa 380 based on price and reputation. I do not know much at this point about the differences in the various models. Of course before I buy I need to educate myself.

Maybe y'all can help. I believe there is a 7 round and 15 round model. What are the differences in them? Is one a single stack and one a double? Are they similar in length and height? Is one considered better from a reliability of accuracy standpoint?

Does anyone have a pic of them side by side?

I am honestly looking for a larger sized 380. Probably something I could carry IWB as a BUG to my pocket P3AT;)

I had one and sold it to my brother, starting to wish I could get it back from him. For a .380 it sure would smack the palm of your hand with some stout loads.

+1 for the Bersa 380CC, love mine:

I like the .380 Bursa as well. Paid about $275 (base price) + FFL fees. I'd buy new and not take a chance of getting someone elses problem.

Bought mine in 2008 and carried it for almost two years before replacing it as a primary with a Kel-Tec PF-9. The Thunder .380 is, as has been said, one of the best of the little-known handgun values. Mine runs flawlessly with anything I've tied through it, including ammunition of age differences greater than twenty years mixed in the magazines. It's a gun that is easy to master, and that any responsible member of the family could be able to deploy and use in a crisis. It is, of course, much heavier and larger than the "keychain" guns also available in the caliber, but those qualities are what make it such a solid and easy-to-shoot performer.

I will say it again for the benefit of the new Bersa owners. Put some loctite on the hand guard screws. They have a tendency to loosen up and get lost. Those screws are a special size and come only from Bersa.

TennJed,

Bersa has 3 380 frames and recently discontinued a fourth that you might still find around.

The BT380 is the basic 7 round model.
The BT380CC has an 8 round magazine and is slightly, but significantly, smaller in all dimensions.
The BT380 Plus is a double stack 15 round model.
The BT380DLX was recently discontinued. It has the same dimensions as the BT380 but has an upgraded finish and came with a 9 round magazine. (The 9 and 7 round magazines are interchangable. The 7 and 8 rounders will sometimes work in the "other" pistol but should only be used for the range if swapped. The 15 round magazine, being the only double stack, can only be used in the plus model).

Firestorm is a marketing company that has Bersa make several pistols for them. They are very similar to the Bersa Thunders but have rounded trigger guards vs. the Bersa's squared ones.

Check out www.bersa.com and click on "Catalog" for the pretty pictures.

I hope this helps.

Dan

I purchased a Bersa Thunder Duotone for $289 last year. It's a great shooter, accurate, and low recoil. I remember having one FTE out of 500 rds. Sounds like a good deal with the ammo.

I'm normally a Beretta fan, but in .380, I'd go with a Bersa Thunder. It has all the same features, so you don't have to learn new ones. DA/SA, safety/de-cocker on the slide, nice trigger, etc... and the price is great.

Nothing wrong with Beretta's .380. I like the size of the Bersa better, though.

Bought a Thunder years ago for my wife. She (& everyone that shoots it) loves it.
I use it as a back up when I have to send my PF-9 back to KelTec for repairs.
I wouldn't pay more then $200 for a used one though. The ammo should be discounted too if you buy the one you mentioned. I would think that combo would be worth about $400 to me.

Talked the lady into buying a used duotone. We had stove pipe issues, 3/5 FTE on PMC ammo. My hand loads were somewhat better, but noise and recoil still scared my diminutive partner. She went back to targets w/.22's and I took the gun as a bedside piece. Warranty was not transferable, so I did not get it checked and repaired. It was probably why it was on sale in the first place. After a year, I traded it for a GP100. It was easily trade-able, the LGS staff were arguing as to which would buy it, and it disappeared out of the used gun display the next day. Overall a nice gun although my Mauser HSc was more accurate.
