The only two companies I have been able to find that make 1911s in 9mm are springfield armory and sti. I understand that kimber is supposed to make one but have heard its not likely to happen.

What other companies produce 1911s in 9mm?
I am not looking to spend over $1000 but would like something reliable and accurate.

Thanks,
KT9

Colt sometimes makes 9x19 1911's; however, the 9x19 is not in production at the moment. I found a Colt 9x23 that now has an extra barrel for 9x19. You can convert a .38 Super or 9x23 to 9x19 by fitting a new barrel, bushing, and extractor (if the base gun is a .38 Super) and changing the recoil spring.

I have both Colt and STI 9x19 1911's, and the STI Trojan 5.0 is a great choice. The street price should be less than $1000, but your dealer will have to order from STI. You can specify a few options, including grips and sights, so ordering is a nice way to go. Delivery is running between four and eight weeks at the moment. The Trojan is ready to go when you pull it from the box. If you desire a long slide, the Trojan 6.0 is a great choice, but it costs close to $1200.

Kimber is manufacturing a short run (trial basis) of 9mm's. I have been dreaming and trying to decide myself between the STI and the Kimber. The STI may be the better choice.

Para Ord makes(or maybe its "made" at this time, I don't follow them closely) a 9X19 variant.

Armscor makes them. Ed Brown and Strayer-Voigt offer custom-made 1911s in 9mm and other calibers.
