Selling a couple old cowboy rifles to fund an AR platform. I want to work off of the OBR or the PredatAR and am wondering if anyone has had experience with either of these, and if so, which .300blk upper would you think would mate the best? Also, for you .300blk guys, which barrel length do you find ideal for multipurpose application?

For multipurpose and non-NFA, I think 16" makes by far the most sense. If you have a registered SBR lower then there might be some debate between 16" and shorter depending on your planned uses. Longer than 16" only makes sense for exclusively supersonic use and it only adds a modest bit of velocity.

New products are being announced frequently so what is a good choice could change in just a month or two. The higher end uppers are AAC and Noveske, and LMT will have an MRP 300BLK upper sometime soon. For less money S&W just announced an interesting 300BLK upper (and rifle), there is CMMG, there is an option from Model 1 Sales that I wouldn't really consider, etc. etc. Building your own is possibly a good option too if you have the tools and skills, or are willing to pay a gunsmith a bit to do the assembly. There are probably more options for good affordable barrels than there are for good affordable complete uppers.

I have an AAC upper that i like so far. I have put around 200 rounds through it.
I am waiting on SBR papers, so soon it will have around 10 inches barrel length.

With the 16 inch and my 762 suppressor on it the balance is not very good and it is a bit long for my liking. Not bad by any means, but if you can SBR it, I do not see a single reason not to. I will be shooting subs mostly, so I have no use for the longer barrel.

I'd agree, however if you can have an SBR I think it is a caliber that makes a lot sense to have a shorter barrel. With super sonic loads you lose only a couple hundred FPS to go down to a 9" barrel. For subsonic use a suppressor on the shorter barrel handles and balances better.

I'm eyeing a Noveske rogue hunter. I am however partial to Noveskes. It is safe to assume it will be high quality and accurate. However, it certainly is not the most budget minded.

I have a friend who likes his noveske a lot.
Is it safe to assume the AAC upper is made by Remington?
SBR isn't an option for me now while I'm in California but as soon as I'm home in Texas I'll be applying for my toys.
Any tips on rate of twist vs barrel length?
Also wanting to hear from someone with experience shooting different types of rifling i.e. polygonal, button, etc. and how these different techniques of shaping and spinning the round affect its terminal ballistics at extended ranges?

No, I believe it's actually manufactured by AAC.

Most 300BLK barrels use 1:8 twist regardless of length, as it works for both supersonic and subsonic bullets (at least up to a 220gr SMK).

I don't think their uppers are billet. I don't think I've seen anyone offering a billet upper yet. If you want one, I would suggest you buy the bare upper and barrel you want and assemble them yourself, or pay a gunsmith maybe $50 to assemble it for you (I don't know what this should cost, but it's not a difficult job).

Yeah I'm guessing so. This will be a good opportunity to hand select every part from the ground up; to really make a solid rifle.
