Got the itch for another .45ACP handgun. Currently have two:

Sig Sauer P220
Kimber Pro Raptor II

Most likely looking for a full size as it would be a house gun and range gun with possible carry while in the field while hunting. I own Glocks in other calibers. Also own an STI Trojan in 9mm.

1911? If so, which one? STI Lawman? SA TRP? STI Trojan?
HK45?
Glock 21SF?
Others?

For a little more money you could have a Baer. Nothing wrong with STI, though.

Got to go with Eddie, you can buy a like new Les Baer for that and a new one with a little more. If you want a custom you might try randgfirearms.com Gary has a Behlert custom for a great price.

My choice is a Witness. A CZ clone, very accurate, and reliable. And also allows a complete caliber change on the same frame. You can buy complete barrel, slide and mag kits for under $250, and switch from .22 to .45 and everything in between, .22, 9mm, 38super, .357Sig, .40, 10mm, .45. All on the same frame if you get the metal frame. Basic gun starts around $450 to $500. Check out EAA website.

I have a CZ 97 and it's a great gun ... especially if you have very large hands.

For the money mentioned above -- I'd go with the Baer or a STI. May take some shopping and dealing, but it would be well worth it!

Just my two cents,

Rusty

Consider Dan Wesson

I would try a dan wesson. I have owned many 1911's and recently purchased a D Wesson CBOB and it's quality is equal to most custom pistols. The value fo the cost is high.

I paid less than that for my LNIB Les Baer TRS.

If you are looking for new in the box look for a Dan Wesson Valor...

S&w 625

Smith & Wesson model 625. The newer guns are good. The older guns with forged internals are better. They can be had for about half of your listed budget, leaving almost enough for another decent .45. If you've already got several other auto .45's, why not try a revolver?! Moonclips load like lightening and are as easy to carry as extra magazines. And revolvers aren't nearly a finkicky as an auto can be.

Wheelguns are real guns!!!!

Dan Wesson CBOB around $1000.00 (bad picture, pistol is actually stainless steel)

Dan Wesson CCO around $1200.00 Commander slide on a forged aluminum officer frame

Some good suggestions, but based on what I have owned, either a lightly used Les Baer (awesome pistols), or a customized CZ-97. Hand size is pretty important with the CZ, gotta' have a least mid-sized mitts or bigger.

I like my G21SF. It is what it is. I also like my Cougar 8045F. Turns out, I like pretty much anything that goes bang.

I also like the fun method of look around, pick something up and buy it. Ok, seriously, I prefer to shoot one that belongs to one of my friends to try them out. Ask your friends. Try those other .45's they have told you so much about. Hell, let them try yours as well.

A buddy has a S&W 625. I shot it a couple of weeks ago. Nice. But, I prefer my Ruger GP100 with .357 Magnum loads.

S&W 945

I love these. Can probably get one for $1500ish. It's not a 1911 but the controls are the same. Shoots like a dream. Not a carry gun though.

I'm probably going to catch flack for suggesting this, but I got my Para GI Expert( i know it isn't exactly GI spec..) for $489 brand new in the box and shipped.(+$30 for transfer to ffl)

THis gun has been excellent after the 500 round break in period. I had some problems, early on with feed ramp, but i just polished it, and in the last 600 rounds haven't had one FTF.
