You want an Oslon Black LED on a brass pill, not aluminum. I buy mine from Ian Sirrell of Ir.lightbuilds in the UK. He airmails to the USA, turn around is very fast. https://www.facebook.com/Ir.light.builds?_fb_noscript=1
Generally, a 940nm is suitable for use with digital NV. It should be OK with gen III, will not work with Gen I and Gen II is 'maybe'. It will give IIRC half the output of an equivalent 850nm LED.

NP. The bit at the beginning of the vid about not looking into IR torches? Its real. I'm pretty sure I damaged my retinas that way. I find it hard to see detail in dim conditions, this started after I started playing with IR. With a good lens an Oslon Black will illuminate with enough detail to make out critters at 400 yards and take shots at 300. Think how bright a white light would need to be to do that. Then think of staring at a light like that for more than a few milliseconds. Double Plus Ungood.
