Best all around twist ratio for a .223

I am looking to buy a bolt action .223 for general purpose use, targets, varmints, etc. I would like a gun that can handle all of these chores. I have read about the various twists found on .223s and do not know which is best as an all around ratio.

I am looking at the Remington 700 VS 1:12 ratio and the CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar 1:9.

What are your thoughts on this?

1/9 twist will allow the greatest range of factory bullets, but if you reload you might consider a different twist rate.

1/12 is best for bullets 55 grains and lighter, there are many varmint type bullets in this wieght range.

1/8 or 1/7 are better for VLD heavy match-type bullets up to 80 grains, most of these you can't buy over the counter.

If you are sticking to over-the-counter bullets then 1/9 will shoot everything from 45 grains up to about 70 grains with good results.

Of the two you mention, I'd go with the 1-9 CZ.

Remington offers their 700P, and 700LTR in .223 with the 1-9 twist, and they are intended for target, or sniper roles. You be the judge.
