OK, the local Sportsman's Warehouse just got in and is holding for me a CZ-527 Varmint, Kevlar in .223 ($859) but also has the 527 Varmint, gray wood laminate, .223 ($629). Is the kevlar scocked version worth the price of a good scope just to get the 1:9 vs the 1:12 bbl?

Really depends on what type of bullet you will be using. 1/12 will work great up to 55 grain bullets where as the 1/9 will work on bullete up to 69 grains.

$230 cheaper than the kevlar (retail). Plus Sportsman's Warehouse had a deal for $150 gift certificate for any purchase over $500. That plus the money saved on the laminate vs kevlar buys some pretty decent glass.

I plan to start with the 55gr FMJs I have on hand, and then, in short order, to purchase a hand press and dies to reload .223 light target rounds. My friend/FFL dealer has a Dillon turret press and a single stage hand press. He reloads primarily pistol rounds and showed me the basic process for reloading with both the truret and single stage hand press today. He has kindly offered to help teach me what I need to know and help me pick up reloading equipment to get started safely. I am excited about the prospect. So now, I have my next "project" rifle - the CZ-27 Varmint .223, AND my next "project" hobby - reloading .223 (for starters).

Try the 40gr Vmax when you start reloading. They work great for me. Just remember you can't full length resize with a hand press.
