So, eBay is anti-gun.

I know there have been threads about protesting that and so on but I had a practical question:

Does anyone know of any good alternatives to eBay where you can get a similar experience but without giving money to antis?

Thanks!

Gunbroker has the most action and the biggest selection, but more of the people selling on Auction Arms seem to be private sellers. Anymore, it seems that most sellers on Gunbroker are dealers, and I've seen several starting bids that were the same as MSRP on new-manufactured items.

I've bought from both of them, and never had a bad experience.

Gunbroker also has the @#$%^& "extended auction" feature that resets the ending clock if a bid is made at the last minute - two idiots can keep an auction going for hours past the posted end time. AuctionArms runs a real auction - when the time is up, it is over.

I like auctionarms and gunbroker because you can find just about any gun your looking for there.
Also I don't have an FFL, but have sold many hanguns on gunbroker.......very convenient.

Thanks

I'd seen Gunbroker before but not Auction Arms - am checking it out now, and GearPay looks good.

What about a competitor to eBay for purchases that are unrelated to guns? They obviously decided this was a market they could do without but I don't want to give them any money for anything else.

There is also Gunsamerica.com, not as much listed as the others but still worth checking every now and then for a deal.

But what about gun gear, reloading gear and the such.

I think when he asked for alternatives from ebay he was talking about parts, accessories and gear. I haven't seen an actual gun sold on ebay to date.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Gunbroker also has the @#$%^& "extended auction" feature

Actually, I like that feature. I hate to be outbid in the last 5 seconds of an action on ebay, especially when I know it's a program doing it and not a person sitting at their computer.

Unfortunately there is no alternative ( that I know about) to ebay.

Sure you can buy gun related stuff on the aforementioned sites but where can you find, at auction, that 1954 oldsmobile radio or that thingy for a Jeep that hasn't been made for 20 years?

Gunbroker and auctionarms don't require any insertion fee. So every dealer and their mothers put "advertisements" for their firearms on it. They aren't looking to sell with those prices. Waste of my time finding real auctions.

Sorry personal rant.

Foob is right... You have to research prices. The dealers are getting free advertisements and the prices are not that good. You might get a gun from dealers that they have a hard time selling in person.

I bought a Heritage 45 Colt from a Pawn Broker (@ gunbroker.com) at less than retail only to end up spending $50.00 more than retail. It had a misaligned frame and the cylinder would drag on the barrel. Bad gun. Cost me postage twice (repair attempts) and fees to get a replacement. Heritage finally replaced it with a nice flawless new one that was recently assembled. The first was several years old. I'll pay a little more next time just to inspect the gun.

i recently moved my firearm related sales to auction arms, from ebay.
i could not be more pleased.
it does work a little differently than ebay software wise, but is similar enough.
pictures load much more simply on auction arms, but take longer as they are excellent pictures, as you will note when shopping

I've bought several firearms off both the sites mentioned above. The 15 minute rule can be a good and a bad thing. Definitely better for the seller. Read feedback carefully, but the most important thing when buying guns online is to know what you are looking at. If you aren't 100% sure, ask the seller. Most are happy to answer questions and send extra pics if requested. You can't hold the gun in your hands before you buy it, so know all you can before bidding. There are deals to be had on both sites, you just have to know what to look for, and more importantly how to weed out all those NIB search results.

My main problem is finding parts! Where are they? I haven't noticed any upswing in the amount of parts on gunbroker or auctionarms. I used to be able to find parts all over ebay. Are people just not selling parts online now after ebay shut it down?

I don't think e-bay is so anti gun, they are just trying to cover their ass. Plenty of gun stuff still on e-bay, some at good prices. Stuff on gunbroker or auctionarms seems to be listed for top dollar.

It'll take time for AA and GB to adjust to consumer demand.
However, I also think that if gunnies stick to their promises of boycotting eBay, they'll find that their local gun stores are still around and ready for business, in addition to GB and AA.
So I may have to pay 30- 60 bucks more for a gun. It's worth it.
However, I think that most gunnies aren't giving up eBay. Like Souris, they're drawn by the promise of finding rare stuff for their other hobbies.
I've started buying from members of message boards and can get the same rare items and some that never hit eBay. I'm also into old Mercury Cougars and archery, and there are good message board members at every board I use selling what I want. Not to mention businesses.
Ebay isn't a necessary evil for anyone willing to put out a little effort.

Check the classifieds, message boards, and interact with other shooters. You'll be surprised what you can find. There was a time when eBay didn't exist and people used to actually interact with one another.

I just found this thread looking for an alternative to PayPal and am a little dissapointed that gunsamerica.com was just kind of passed over. I personally like it the best.

On I85n heading out of Atl there was a billboard advertising a local alternative to ebay. Unfortunately, I can't recall what it was and do not travel that road often. :-(

For anything non firearm related, I don't believe you fill find a worthy alternative to ebay, that just the sad truth.

I sold tons of brass on eBay before they went south. I have a couple auctions on Gunbroker right now, just to see how they'll do. Really not a big fan of Gunsamerica. Have tried several times to contact sellers on there about a particular item and never get a response.

eBay may still be carrying some gun related items like reloading gear, but in the old days, you were crazy if you put in a search for "45 acp" since you'd get thousands of hits. Now you get under a hundred with the same search.
