Best Ammo for Glock 19?

Welcome to THR!

There are many Glocks with 100K & 200K+ rounds out of them at this point so you shouldn't need to worry about what type of ammo or if the Glock will hold-up to constant practice.

I don't have a cartridge to recommend, all I want to say is that the effectiveness of any pistol & cartridge really depends on the abilities of the shooter.

You can buy the hottest load with the best expansion, but if you can't hit your target center mass, it won't matter. Just having a gun isn't enough for SD/HD.

You need to train and train and train, take some classes and then keep training. It takes months of shooting to become familiar with your pistola, then it takes years of training after that to be really proficient.

As a practice regimen for new firearms owners, I suggest that you buy a box or two of any jacketed hollow point, then buy as much FMJ as you can afford. Go to the range and shoot about 100 rounds of the FMJ. Then run 10 rounds of JHP through your pistol. Then go home.

Keep going to the range on a regular basis and shoot from 100-150 rounds of FMJ every trip and load the JHP only after you leave for SD/HD. You don't need to keep shooting the expensive JHP very often to develop the muscle memory necessary to quickly & smoothly fire your pistol, FMJ is enough.

Shoot-up your on-hand JHP supplies every quarter & replace while regularly shooting only FMJ.

Do this for 6 months to a year and then look into taking a self-defense class.

Good luck.

Can anyone suggest a good IWB holster for the G19? One that is comfortable and has a mag holder built in?

I recommend the Comp-Tac C-TAC holster. As for the mag pouch, you do not want one on the same side as the weapon. You want it on your support side. I recommend the Glock Sport/Combat mag pouch. It sells for ~$10.

Crossbreed SuperTuck
Comp-Tac Minotaur

I have owned both. I personally prefer the Comp-Tac, but plenty of folks swear by the Crossbreed. You can't really go wrong with either one.

I can also recomend the Crossbreed belts, and am, in fact, wearing one right now. High quality stuff for a good price.

...and has a mag holder built in?

Can't help you there, I wear my spares on the weak hand side (when I carry them at all, which is rare - I prefer a 'New York reload').

defense ammo: corbon dpx.

training ammo: get whatever is cheaper, right now brown Bear is cheapest @165 per K, i am going to pick up about 5k here in the near future. (and yes your glock will be fine with brown bear, wolf even though they are steel cased.)

Crossbreed is the best IWB for Glocks. I carry mine at 5oclock, 6 for deeper concealment or days with lots of standing/walking.

I don't often carry an extra mag with my Glocks. But if I did, for IWB days I'd use a pocket holster for the mag, i make my own.

I don't understand having the mag on/near your gun holster. That makes reloads too hard. I keep my mags on my support side, bullets forward.

OWB mag and gun Holsters....I use Raven Concealment.

The only reason that i would even think that someone one put their spare magazine on the same side at the handgun is if they had more than one reload. Had one of the "off" side, and one on the same side as the handgun in case they are injured, and only have the use of their primary weapon hand. I keep spares on the opposite side from the handgun.

Thank you.

I heard that +P ammo is bad for glocks, is this true?
No, it's not! I use Federal 9BPLE 115gr +P+ as both range & carry ammo. I stocked up on thousands of rounds of it when it was available to me at just over ten bucks a box, I don't have an accurate count between my 9mm Glocks, but it has to be over 10,000 or so because I purchased 20,000 rounds to begin with, and I only have about half of it left.
If you do see some wear, it's usually in the form of some cutting, or chipping around the breech face, however this is rare.....

You have chosen a fine weapon. I love my Glock 19.
I don't carry it as a CCW but have shot mostly Winchester White Box and Federal at the range without a hitch.

I will definately buy it from a local gunstore if they have it, but if they don't, or it is too expensive, is there a website that sells them cheap or in bulk? I will be breaking in my new G19 as soon as I get it with about 200 or so rounds of cheap ammo, and then 100 or so of the Speer ammo to make sure there are no bugs in it.
One very important caveat pertaining to cheap ammo, DO NOT under any circumstances ever resort to firing lead(non-jacketed)ammo through your Glock factory barrel, EVER!

The 19 should handle +p or even +p+ with no problems.

Aren't the 19/23/32 the same? The 19 used to have one less pin than the 23, but now they're the same right?

The 32 and 23 are like 9mm +p+++++. If they can handle all that snap, no 9mm round is going to hurt a similar frame.

While +P ammunition it will not hurt them, I would reserve them for carry/protection rounds. I typically will shoot ball ammo at the range for the day, then load 5 Speer Gold Dot 9mm +P for my final "see how I shoot" test. I do recommend try several different high performance rounds (Speer, Golden Saber, Cor-Bon, Hydra Shok, etc.) to see which round your weapon "likes". My Gen4 G19 happens to like the Speer.

According to Glock Customer Service, their pistols are Combat Weapons and designed for any high pressure ammunition. My 26 and 19 just love NATO 9mm.
