I'm looking to build an AR, haven't decided on a .556/300 blackout or pistol variation.

I've heard that Daniel Defense makes top quality barrels. But of course they are pricey. Does anyone have any experience with other high quality barrels for a better price (under $200).

I've seen some AR barrels on Classicfirearms.com for really good prices. But the maker is called US Contractor. Never heard of them. Anyone here use them?

Thanks
Steve

ER Shaw makes very good barrels for the price.

I consider them a pretty safe bet for anything but a match rifle.

I've got 4 barrels from ARPerformance. If they're in stock, they're usually around $215. They have A LOT of good features that are usually included in much more expensive barrels. In my 3-gun rifle, I have a barrel that is 18", .223 Wylde chamber, 1:8 twist, 5R rifling that is melonited and shot a 3 round group of 55 grain PMC Bronze ammo in a perfect horizontal line of 1.1" at 300 yards. I know it sounds too good to be true, but the other 2 rounds of that 5 shot series were farther off (1 low and 1 right). The center dot on my scope is 2 MOA, so I'm sure a certain amount of luck was involved. He's usually out of stock for a reason, but it's a great value and worth the wait if you can wait.

white oak precision. they make the barrels that win NRA hi-power matches

I was unable to tell a difference between a spikes le upper, a rock river predator pursuit, and a palmetto premium upper. All shot about .5-1" with most quality loads. I am developing the opinion that most quality barrels are all pretty much the same at this point. And they all outshoot me.

I was told by a builder that most production barrels are pretty good, that to get match grade you need to spend over $200. My Del-ton 20 inch Gov. Profile shoots 1 MOA. Most company's barrels are made by contract to major makers. But that is hearsay. There are probably different grades.

Q: What is the difference between a White Oak Precision upper and a White Oak Armament upper?

A: The biggest difference is in the barrel and sights. I wanted to offer something for the new shooter that would be competitively priced with the uppers from RRA, Bushmaster, or Armalite, yet would have all top notch components so that new shooters can compete at all levels.

The White Oak Armament uppers start with a Wilson match grade, lapped blank which is chambered and machined here in our shop. Additionally the sights are not pinned unless you request that option ($55 upcharge). The sight parts however are the same.

White Oak Precision uppers start with a Krieger blank and sight pinning is included in the price of the upper.

Other than the barrel blank, all other components are the same between White Oak Precision and White Oak Armament Uppers.

Walther and Kreiger make some of the best barrel blanks.
