I want to spend a thousand dollars on an AR. Which one should I get? I love the extensive knowledge that this sight offers. :D

I want a lifetime warranty and great customer service. I also want something that is customizable, and reliable.

CMMG is option #1

dpms bull 20" in stainless steel...mine gives me 1/2 inch groups..incredible gun especially for that price

Don't think you can get a Colt or S&W right now for 1K. If you find one, call me.

In a few months, after the BHO-paranoia cools (til term 2 reignites it) i imagine there will be some overstocked merchants who put in big orders when supply was tight; and first timers who bought one out of fear-of-2A-repeal who lose their jobs or never use the thing, and go to sell it LNIB.

/Just sayin, prices are relative these days.

Get one of the S&Ws at Praco's then. Those are good prices on a good rifle.

CMMG. You can get one for right around $1,000 after shipping and transfer fee if you buy the upper and lower seperately. Have about a 6-12 month wait at this time, though, like most other places.

best complete rifle for 1k: S&W. best rifle(minus rear iron sight) for close to 1k: LMT. Good luck finding a colt for close to that price.

ETA: you said you wanted great CS: get the S&W

I was shopping for an AR15 in that price range a week ago. I couldn't find a decent brand AR for that price.

Mini-14s can be had for $650. The new ones don't have the accuracy issues of the past Mini's, and you can buy 20 and 30 round magazines from Ruger (they're expensive, but they work).

If you're not planning on buying dozens of magazines or shooting at very long range, the Mini-14 is the most economical by far. It's probably a lot more reliable than a bottom-of-the-barrel AR15.

My vote is for CMMG.

I just ordered a CMMG upper and lower separately yesterday. One of the best things about ordering from them (especially if you do upper and lower separate like I did) is that you have a ton of options when it comes to getting a rifle exactly the way you want it.

Good news is that they're processing the order for my lower today so it should be on its way shortly. Bad news is that people are quoting 6 month waits for the uppers. In the end it doesn't really matter to me since I can't afford the ammo at the current prices and I'm hoping they'll drop by the time I have a complete rifle. I went on a big spending spree yesterday ordering the rifle, mags, sling, QD sling mount, LaRue fixed BUIS, and 5.11 rifle case so the wait will give my wallet a chance to recover (but I'm already itching to buy an Aimpoint so we'll see how that goes).

Build your own! I'm considering it.

Just a heads up with that Del-Ton kit, I ordered mine in November and am stll waiting for it. Good company, but be prepared to wait.

CMMG all the way. I'm doubtful if you could get a new Colt or Armamlite for under $1000, though.

14.5" middy upper

option #1

Buy a slightly used one from someone that needs the cash more than they need the AR.

Rock River makes a great gun. Not sure about the warranty though. You could build your own LMT. Lauer Custom Weaponry has a stripped lower made by LMT $130. Get a good parts kit $100. That leaves enough to try a find a slightly used LMT upper. Check out AR15.com equipment exchange.

spend a few dollars more

Right now that would be really hard to do. Though I have seen some people who really need money now cut a price to move a rifle real quick. But around here right now you can get at least 1,500 for a Bushmaster and an LMT last week sold (no optics flat top) for 1,800. But really is it cost or quality you want? Throw together a few more dollars and buy a quality rifle. It will be worth it in the long run. Some say that prices will come down in 6 months when production catches up with demand, but I would not count on it coming down very much.
When you may have to rely on it going bang, you cant afford not to have the best.

I find it funny that 9 people picked colt. They must not have read the OPs criteria. It is the Best AR for 1000 not 1500.
