im not new to guns at all and i have spent alot of time looking at ar's. but what ar is best being very cheap as well? im looking for a m4 type maybe with removable carry handle. i want to hear from owners and users and want to know what ones jam and what kind of accuracy you get.

Good and cheap don't really go together in any world... much less the AR world... inexpensive AR's I would consider to be decent: Del-Ton, DPMS, & Olympic Arms off the top of my head... at least they all have a GOOD warranty... but they are by no means "cheap"

HTH... ymmv...

Cheers...

S&W is as low as I would go. Good price, good reliability. they aren't perfect but they are hard to beat for the money.

There are some cheap ARs that are quite expensive. Likewise there are inexpensive ARs (comparatively speaking) that are top-notch.

Check out BCM. It'd be really hard to top what you get for the price. They are on par with LMT.

$335--complete lower assembly (if memory serves me correctly)
$475--complete upper (less bcg, charging handle, rear sight)
$135--bcg
$25--charging handle
$50-$100--rear sight or carry handle

$1020-$1070--total

Read about them at BravoCompanyUSA.com. The features and quality are quite impressive.

Furthermore, buying pieces as funds permit will enable you to buy a top tier AR without comprising quality. It'll definately be an AR you're proud to own.

Lots of useful info on m4carbine.net about them as well.

Whatever you ultimately decide on, do the research first so you'll know what you're getting for your money. All ARs are not created equal!

Let us know what you decide!

I think you would be happy with a S&W, Charles Daly, or CMMG, any of which can be found under $900.

I would disagree with the Sportical unless it's only going to be a range toy/plinker.

Doublestar from J&T Supply out of Kentucky. I have had very good service from them and the uppers have all shot very well.

White Oak

I think White Oak uppers are a great deal considering the quality you get.

My thoughts exactly. I shoot a WOA SR upper on a mil-spec lower. A2 buttstock. Yes, I had to wait 5 months to get it, but workmanship is excellent and the rifle doesn't hold me back. Since I also spent up for a Geissele 2-stage trigger, the rifle set me back $1200+. Net-out the price of a Geissele and you're looking at $1000+.

Stag makes a very good rifle for the money. I bought my lower (from Stag) and upper (from Gunbroker) separately. Just make sure you are getting a real Stag. Some sell Stag lower receivers with cheaper parts and call it a complete Stag lower.

Not sure how you want to go, but I really have taken to the DPMS Sportical-- locally they run about $690-- I was at first against the no FA, spent casing deflector, and dust cover-- but I got to thinking-- my FA never got used, except when I was dumb enough to shoot blanks in my A2, I am a righty, and the dust cover on my A2 had a broken spring, and it just flopped around...I can put a piece of duct tape over the chamber, flag it, and remove when I need to.. I think for a firing AR, its a great value-- mine will be home before Xmas....

I don't have a full AR from DoubleStar but recently assembled a lower with a DoubleStar LPK and was very, very pleased with the quality of the parts. I've also seen them recommended by some industry insiders. They're probably worth a look also. I've seen good prices on them at Centerfire Systems.

Still, for under $900 you can get a major recognized brand like S&W - is it worth going to something else to save $50-100?

My AR15 project is currently

$130 for shipped Essential Arms stripped lower, tough coat, and FFL
$500 for shipped Del Ton light weight rifle kit and spanner wrench

Total minus ammo and mags is $630

I am very happy with this considering the lower and kit have great reputations.

I am shocked by the S&W comments and below $900. Though I love smith revolvers their AR's in my area are some of the most expensive in the shops. Just yesterday I saw an AR for $1100 but a Rock River on sale for $899.

Click on "AR" in the top left menu:

CDNN has had comparable prices on S&W M&P15s, various models. You can download their catalog if you want. And I've seen prices not much higher advertised for the local Cabela's.

I don't own a S&W AR but I have yet to hear anything bad about them, and have heard good reports from professional instructors.
