Best deer point of aim. Where do you aim?

Where is your perfect shot placed?

Visualize the vital area within the deer when taking aim. How many times have you seen someone shoot " just behind the shoulder" and only take out one lung (if any vitals at all) because the deer was quartering towards them. Aiming for the offside shoulder is a good bet. I do shoot behind the shoulder when the deer is broadside or quartering away (aiming at the offside shoulder).

The same place where NASCAR_MAN shoots, straight up the leg, middle of body. The farthest I have ever had one go using that shot is about 3 feet...straight down. The buck I shot this year was shot in the neck, 50 yards, .308 with a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip, DRT. He only showed me his head and neck, the rest of him was hiding behind a cedar tree :).

It depends,

If it's late and I'm tired or it's raining I tend to try a head or neck shot. It's always been dead in tracks or a clean miss.

I really haven't seen many bucks. Don't know what I'd do if I saw a really big buck - probably go through the shoulder into the lungs. I've heard that breaking the shoulder makes them easier to find....

Mostly I take does for meat (well duh - since I don't see many bucks and let the little ones walk) and generally use a double lung shot (avoiding the shoulder) when they are fully broadside. Sometimes it takes me a while to find them. I even had one that basically did not bleed - which was really hard to find.

I used to aim for body shots(heart/lungs), but then I realized..."aim for the neck, you'll either hit or miss, and there is no second guessing....) but that's just me....

bread basket

I aim just behind the shoulder that way if for any reason I am off a little in any direction I still hit vitals. Its a big target. My preferred shot is a neck shot. It can be deadly, but I only aim there when I have no better choice.

The reason is simple, like my best friend found out this year, he took a neck shot on a nice 8 pointer at 110 yards, there was some sudden head movement and so he wounded a deer. If he would have shot for the vitals he would have dropped him. Every bread basket shot Ive commited to produced the desired result..

I aim for the middle of the front of the chest if it's broadside. That should hit the lungs. The problem with aiming for the heart from a treestand is you could nick the heart as the bullet is travelling downward.

I do not hunt bucks too many folks trophy hunt in my area so for them a spike horn is great. only because bucks are so over hunted they cant grow anything else. So senseless to me any way.

I doe hunt only and go for the head shot. If they go down I got them if they run off I got missed. Dont worry if I blow their nose off I will hit them where ever I can to put them down. But that has never happened yet. I also dont shoot much past 150 yards.

head. unless it has more than 6 points or it's more than 150 yds away then i go for the lungs unless it's a trophy then i go after the blades to make sure he drops where shot
