Best entry level 1911?

If entry level doesn't mean cheap, get a DW. I own many 1911 type guns, the RIA and the DW's were the best choices I made, I could have saved the money I spent on the other brands. The Kimber with it's MIM was an accurate gun, but I hate MIM and I think my Colt came with both MIM and a plastic MSH, the Colt cost twice what the RIA cost me, why would I pay extra for that?
The RIA is as reliable as any 1911 I ever bought at 1/2 to 1/3rd the cost. The DW is the pinnacle for quality production 1911's, I own three of them.

Anothernewb,
Spartans are made by armscor in the Philippines they use some US made small parts,
Springfields use Brazilian frames but some have enough US parts to be stamped made in US some don't and are stamped made in Brazil.

Another to add to your list Para's are now made in USA but apparently the brand is going away and some models will be marketed under the Remington logo

SIG 1911's are made in America. IIRC
While there's a lot there that isn't a traditional 1911, (although they do make a round slide model) I have to say the 2 I own are very nice pistols that perform well above their price.

I do not have one, but a regular shooter in the club has one that he is very happy with. In fact, it's the most accurate one he has with the marvel kit on it.

Taurus, as a whole, tends to take quite a beating - despite it's popularity. The best I can say is what has been told to me. Taurus can make a very good pistol, but it's QC process needs work. The odds of getting a poor copy is kinda high, but the flip side is their customer service is pretty good at making you happy. The real question therefore becomes can you afford to buy one -if you have to mess with sending it in a few times?

Maybe look for something used instead of new. They are tough guns and last for many years even under heavy use.

Used is good, as many people buy things and are disappointed or feel differently after they purchase a particular gun than prior to owning it.
You get your best deals that way, as long as you know your stuff going in, if not, bring along someone who does or ask if the guy will let your gunsmith take a look at the gun.
If they say no, you probably don't want it.
