Best/ favorite bolt action .22 rifle?

Were I buying another, I'd opt for a CZ; I have one in the safe and it's a great shooter. But my favorite is a Remington 541T, sporter barrel, with a Leupold 6.5-20X EFR scope on it. It's a classic beauty that is accurate to boot.

Here's mine, its a Marlin 22 magnum. I like a little more punch with my rounds.:p This thing will do 1" at 100 yards all day with cheap armscor ammo.

The Remington Model 5 is tough to beat in terms of value. Excellent accuracy, fit, and finish. Much better than you'd expect for a rifle that sells below $200 with a nice laminated wood stock.

To all the CZ owners on this thread: what ammo do you guys use?

I have a 452 FS and while its beautiful, it has been having pretty poor accuracy with the ammo ive tried- which is just Remington wal-mart bulk packs and CCI stingers. With either of those rounds it seems like its getting 2" at 50 yards or worse. Could just be me, but I doubt it as I shoot way better groups with my Sub2000 in .40 with cheap ammo.

Try to feed that rifle some sub-sonic ammo. You should see your groups shrink immediately. That rifle should be consistently shooting around 1/2" at fifty yards with some decent ammo.

Mine likes Wolf MT and Eley HP's equally and will keep under 1/2" @ 50 yards all day.

Keep the stingers away from that rifle, they could mess up your chamber.

Mine like federal champion 510 very well. Better than some of the mid grade stuff. Remington is junk, can't stand that ammo. Stingers are far from the accuracy round as well. I would try any standard velocity stuff or he 510 and see how that does.

bullpup, i also have an fs. my rifle is not really picky about ammo heres some range results @50 yards

these are cci mini mags 40gr i shot a while back @ 50yards, 5 shot

Thanks for the replies, I actually have a pack of federal 510 that I should try out as well as some remington sub sonic ammo. I whole-heartedly agree that Remington ammo sucks for rimfires, in addition to bad accuracy I have had several FTF with their ammo.

My 452lux seems to like Blazer rimfire ammo, I also shoot Winchester XpertHV high velocity 36gr bulk ammo though I have that on hand mostly because the Ruger mkII seems to like it. I am going to try get my hands on some subsonic stuff, is the Remington subsonic any good? It would probably be the easiest for me to find. Remington doesn't seem to have a good reputation with rimfire ammo, was wondering if their subsonic gets thrown in the same boat. Any particular subsonic brand I should look for with my 452?

The answer is NO to the first question.

My benchmark ammo is Wolf MT, it's consistently more accurate and less $ then others I've tried, including CCI, Eley up to Team, and RWS. If you want to keep the cost down I would go with some CCI, it may be easier to find and won't break the bank and should cost around $6.50 to $7.50 per 100.

My 452 also likes Federal 510. As for the Remington Five, I don't think you can get one for under $200 any more, can you?

My personal favorite bolt .22 is my Remington 511. It is the only .22 that I own that I will shoot at 100 yards with open sights.

I have a Winchester 72 given to me as a Christmas present when I was 13. I'm now 56 and I still have this rifle. It take shorts, long and long rifle cartridges. I have kept it unmodded with open sights. This old girl is dead on accurate. Probably worth more than my SKS or my AK. It's an excellent small game rifle and adds to my collection of various rifles and shotgun, that rounds out my small arsenal of weapons that covers all scenerios if the SHTF for survival purposes. I stocked up on ammo back in the 90s when it was inexpensive. I hope 7.62 ammo eventually goes back down but I have 1500 rnds. and about the same count on 9mm ammo stashed away and a couple bricks of 22 LR. Need to stock up on 12 gauge shells though for my Remington 870 shotgun.

the best of the 22 ammo choices are;
winny all types
feddy all types
cci all types
eley all types
aguila, all types made by eley
golden eagle, all types also made by eley.
wolf all types, also made in the same plant as lapua and sk.
american eagle red/black box. made by Feddy. surprisingly cheap and good.
feddy bulk pacs
winny bulk pacs, avoid cci bulk pacs.
remington, in the orange box, or yellow box, both made by Eley.
THERE IS NO OTHER GOOD REMINGTON AMMO, IT IS ALL DONKEY SHORTHAIR!!!

Since those top 5 brands have about 20 diff types of ammo each that they load, that is about 100 diff boxes to test out right there, alone.
If you use this whole list, you are going to find some ammo, your rifle can really shoot. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.
Did I mention that remmy ammo is testicular juiceage, and should be avoided?

My West German Anschutz 164

Well it may not be the best bolt action .22 ever. However it's the only bolt action .22 I own and it's beautiful and does exactly what it's supposed to, it puts the rounds where they are supposed to go. It's one of those cases where the gun is certainly more accurate than I am.

My vote is for the Savage Mark II. I love that accutrigger. I put a cheap Bushnell 4x32 on mine and it is a tack driver at 50 yards with federal bulk round nose.

I'm very fond of my CZ 452 Trainer. But NWilliams has me salivating over that Annie 164 Sporter. It's on my to-buy list now.

Remington model five $179 at Academy wood and steel no fn plastic it really has a big center fire feel to it. Deck o cards at a hundred yards accurate is good enough for me and it comes with perty good iron sights and swing studs for a sling and integrated scope mount if u want to trow one on no need to drill or tap. Im happy with mine

Both of my CZ's Federal target ammo. My Lux shoots pretty well with most ammo. But my Amercan is fussier and prefers Federal Target, it doesn't shoot stingers well at all. I think subsonic works best.

I recently landed myself a new (used) Savage MKII for a great price from a local guy. I mounted a Bushnell rimfire scope 4x32 on it, and it is a great little shooter. At 25 yards, it is one tiny ragged little hole barely bigger than a single round. At 100 yards, it groups around 1.5" on average. Very good for a bone stock Wally World special. The whole thing only ran me about $120 with scope and sling.

I have a Remington 541T as well. Mine has the heavy barrel, and a maple stock with a Redfield 3x9 scope. Total investment? $2.00 I won it in a raffle about 15 years ago. It will keep 5 shots on a nickle at 50 yards all day long. If I do my part.
