Which one would you choose for overall reliability ruggedness and affordability and why?
some are pricier than others and some are just down and dirty cheap tools that will get the job done

heck theres even a war hero in the mix but is it the best of the best

which would you trust?

Girodin the saiga is in any configuration legaly allowed that you wish same goes for all of the above options accessorize at your hearts content but no fantasy fullauto unlimited ammo movie guns

personaly im torn between the saiga in coverted condition with higher cap mags light and laser vs the mossberg left alone with light only as a minimalists option

Saiga for many reasons, not the least of which would be available parts and upgrades. Then you factor in potential for ammo capacity, simplicity of design, cost...

easy choice for me. Would still take a backseat to a pump for me because reliability and familiarity is king. But yeah, Saiga.

Benelli M4 hands down. I've owned a Benelli, Remington and Winchester (pumps not autos) and I'll take the Benelli over any of the others anytime.

I perfer pumps. The classical sound of a round being chambered means to the BG OH S$%$^.
Much easier to clean too

With out some criteria, hard to "judge" which best fits that question.
Ends up a popularity choice. Nothing wrong with that but does not answer original question. IMO.

Acceptable and Mark i too prefer a pump and from my cold dead hand shall my 590 be removed but i wanted an imaginary "no pump world" answer

Sav what criteria did you have in mind?
TEOTWAWKI... Zombie Apocolypse... or just plain old this is what id feel safe with no matter what kind of fecal matter hit what kind of cooling device?

My S12 is as easy to clean as my pumps. Some of my other autos, not so much. The S12 field strips literally in about 5 seconds and its chrome lined bore cleans very quickly. Its gas system comes apart very quickly and is is easily cleaned as well.

As to the sound. I do not have all of the above autos so I can not say, but on a couple I have racking the bolt sounds about the same, so if you are one that believes in the mythical powers of slide racking, working the bolt of an auto makes a very similar noise.

I figured this would be a shootout between the M4 and S12. I think they are two top contenders (if we are talking modified saigas). I am curious as to how many people have actually used both of those models though.

Best fighting semi-auto shotgun?

I have an FN SLP on my short list of guns to get. Its become quite popular in 3-gun, and they need a gun that runs reliably, and hits quickly and effectively. Very similar needs to a fighting gun.

I don't know what do pumps have to do with this topic, other than turning it into a pump vs semi.....which the OP clearly didn't ask for.

My preferred semi auto fighting gun would probably look something like this:

Tromix 12” internally threaded for chokes or the tromix integrally suppressed S12
-when it comes to SBS guns the saiga has a huge advantage in that it loses none of it round capacity. What other 8” shotgun have you seen with a capacity of 20(+1)? Or even 8(+1) my preferred mag capacity.
-the suppressed tromix was a one off gun I believe. I tried to find pics but the ones Tony had are no longer up. Reports were that it was quite enough to be fired (00 buckshot) indoors with out hearing protection. I lust after that S12 and would love to own one.

Stock of one’s choice, on a SBS I like a folder of some variety. I have yet to settle on what stock is my favorite though.

Tri-rail fore grip

Sure fire light

Tango Down VFG

HK sights w/ tritium insert front post

JTE Mag well (mags drop free and are straight insertion as opposed to rock and lock, reloads are much faster) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GpMvj-v3_w
8 round sure fire magazines. 8 rounds IMHO is the best balance between capacity and size. I should note that I might well be won over by the forth coming MD double stack mags. Time will tell.

Extended mag release

Tabbed and notched safety lever (or possibly left side sliding safety)

Last round bolt hold open and bolt release. (when these become widely available they will really enhance the S12) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5LwV0OS3m0&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVwUsJw1i3U&feature=related

Gunfixer gas plug or lever that allows gas setting to be changed by hand

Tromix firing pin

The FN, Benelli , and Rem. 1100/87s are all very decent SGs for 3 Gun Action or HD -- the Saiga S-12s are considered "Unlimited" type guns in 3 Gun as they are a mag fed SG.

IMHO --- I think the Saiga S-12s are the best choice --- AK reliablity , very quick reload , mag fed , and soft recoil.

It's a tough choice for me between the M4 and a "worked" Saiga but I'd go M4 as the handling and the hit potential seems to be better in my hands.

Aside from that I hate loading box mags.

What about the Browning A-5 Auto? That is an awesome shotgun! Besides when you run out of ammo you could literally use that thing as a club!

Mossberg 930 SPX has been damn reliable for me and I dont have to pack around huge heavy 10-12 round mags to feed it with.

Don't have M4 but my M1 Super 90 runs like a watch, very dependable. I also like 1187P and the S12.

I was really torn between the Benelli and the Saiga, but as far as an all around fighting gun goes, the Benelli can accept a wide variety of loads that might not chamber in a semi, i.e., less than lethal. That, and the M1014 comes ready for combat out of the box. If a non civilian S12 was specified, it'd win. Box magazines are faster to load than tubular magazines and can come in larger sizes.

Beretta 1201FP.

Mainly because it's the only semi auto "tacticool SG" I own -but it has some really good points. :)

It's very light weight, has exellant sights and is superbly reliable (with full power loads). It also points very natural for me.

However becasue it is very light weight... it kicks like a SOB.
Will

Does anyone feel as I do that the 1100/87 is kinda slow for repeated shots if you need an auto? becouse I was shooting a 1100 the otherday and I could pull the trigger before it had reloaded.(or at least I think thats what I did though it may have been something else.)
