I went to the range with my buddy yesterday and brought along an AR I've only shot a couple of other times with high quality match grade ammo. It's a SS 1-7" 16" bbl. I have a budget optic, Vortex Crossfire II 2-7x32 and didn't bring along any of my 75 or 77gr match ammo which I intended to shoot primarily out of this gun but I just grabbed a few hundred rounds of Q3131A and was pretty impressed with the accuracy I was able to achieve out of this run of the mill bulk 55gr ammo.

I expect 2-3 MOA out of this ammo and can get around 1-1 ½moa with the 69 and 77gr ammo that I use. I shot this 1 ¼" 10rd group @100y off a Bipod. Pretty good 👍

What's the best you've ever gotten with bulk 5.56?

Best load ever using a m193 bullet hands down is approximately 22gr of H322. It shoots great in mini14, ar15 carbine and midlength, but may not cycle in some full-length rifles.

Do ya have an accuracy report, with more specifics. I'm not a smokeshow marksman by any means, but I was in disbelief. I couldn't even see where I was hitting @100 but after I got it dialed in @50 I emptied a 10 rd mag and was holding on the bottom center of the orange 3" sticker in pretty low light. About °58 degrees and 4pm right after setting the clocks back with overcast.

I am gonna hang onto this 180rd pack of 5.56 and see if I can do it again or better in better lighting conditions. My buddy was spotting for me and was like "holy smokes bruv, you are either right in there or shooting right over your target". I was pleased at what I found. @50 I was putting em into cloverleaf holes. I had a blast yesterday, shot and helped my buddy put a 50y battle zero on his canted Norinco underfolder, shot my scoped AR and my Henry 45-70 and at the end I let loose with my G19, 10 mags with 5rds each and a couple 30rd mags thru my AR pistol just to wake the neighbors and had a great time.

My piston DMR function testing and sighting-in just after assembly when it was wearing a 3-9 Burris. Also has the LaRue MBT2. 5 shots, cheap Federal 5.56 55gr. Gun was pretty much on the money from the get-go.

Ya, it was only 20YD, but it brought a smile to my face. 😁
Nice 👍 just curious, why do your targets have the car dealership plug on them, they throw in an AR and a stack of targets with every purchase 😆

My local wood fired pizza place has targets similar to those printed on their pizza boxes.

Naw, lol. I don't even work at that dealer, but I pick up parts there all the time and they had a stack of those targets on the parts counter, God bless 'em.

The owners of my work would be more likely to give away Everytown stickers. ☹️

It’s not 5.56, but Frontier 223 with a 55 grain FMJ shoots comparably out of my 16” barrel. I try to keep a box around for comparing my hand loads. It has surprised me a couple of times and outshot the Hornady Black 223 75-grain load on one occasion.

Mini14 accuracy was around 2moa with no flyers with the pencil barrel. The 2lb trigger job I did helped at least some. I have not shot it with the new heavyweight 223wyld barrel.
AR15 midlength accuracy was better well under 2moa and it was the cheapest most accurate 223/5.56 round tested, 22.5gr of h322 will load a lot of shots per pound and with a dirt cheap m193 bullet.
I have tested them for load development, loaded up a ton of them and haven't gone back to the range with them.

The most accurate 223/5.56 load combo I ever messed with was about a max load, maybe a lil more of Reloader7 and a sierra TMK, which ever TMK is around 60-64gr. Those shot about 1moa. But they wouldn't reliably cycle the mini14 or carbine length AR. Would be the perfect bolt gun with silencer load.

Two weekends ago I shot an event using bulk M193, mixed lots and manufacturers thrown into an ammo can over the last several years. Mostly Federal and Winchester. No bullseye, just silhouettes out to a quarter mile. At 100 yards where I could see the "V" in the target center clearly, I got consistent 3" groups offhand. 200 yard rapid fire seated and 300 yard rapid fire prone both came in about 6 inches. 400 yard slow fire prone (I did drop a round out of the black here) groups opened up to about a foot. So average of 3 MOA, which I consider pretty good for position shooting with mixed lot ammunition.
The rifle has a chrome lined Shaw 1:9 barrel, White Oak Armament float tube, ALG QMS trigger with JP Enterprises springs.

My hand load of 25.8 gr. BL-C(2) with 55 gr. FMJ, V-max, or Ballistic Tip Varmint approximates the M193, and is under 2" at 100 yards. I find it adequate for my uses.

Can generally shoot around 2.5 MOA 5-shot groups with the aperture sighted 580 Series Mini-14 with M193 ball.

Being old and mostly old school I am enjoying this thread as one that's informative. I had 3 ARs and have an early SS Mini 14 Rancher, and getting the Mini to shoot is a bit more than recreation. It's OK, and the older Winchester Mfg white box ammo shoots pretty well...about 2"+ for a 5-shot 100yd group with a 3-9 Burris FFII, off a real steady rest and with their mediocre trigger.

I still have my garden variety Stag M4 style, and it is amazing for a 16" barreled gun using the same ammo. I got my ammo 10-20 years ago, btw. I have a fair amount of Remington, also. All ball type.

After sighting in to a POI that's a compromise of all the various ammo I have I put the guns away and bring them out a time or two a year to shoot the spiders out of the barrels. I don't dislike either; I also am not an enthusiast of this niche of firearms, growing up with a dad who had one box of Rem Core-Lokt 180 gr 30-06 ammo for his one deer rifle, a 1951 vintage Mdl 70. He shot one or two rounds a season...two if he also bought a doe tag. He grew up when people used ammo to feed the family. A 22 long (not Long-rifle) shell needed to equal one cottontail.

In my 30's and my 40's I started having plenty of money for ammo and shooting...rifles, shotguns, and handguns and broke away from the old habits developed as a kid.

I think I need to get off my fatazz and get out shooting before my ammo pile turns green and tarnished. I also re-load and can build lots more piles. :p
