Best Gun Show, Nongun Purchase

Last weekend I went to the big gun show in Reno. As usual, most firearms were overpriced. For the prices they were asking for used guns, I could have driven down the highway to Cabelas and purchased a new gun for less, and had a factory warranty to boot.

I did make a great buy though. It wasn't a gun.

At one table this guy had a pile of used holsters, slings and belts. As I rummaged through them I found a leather sling that can used for any long gun. It has loops at each end that fit the barrel and stock of any rifle or shotgun. I have already tried on several guns and it works like a charm. Being that it is made of leather, it grips very well. I had been looking for something like this for awhile.

It set me back a whole five bucks. This is the best fiver dollars I ever spent at a gun show.

So, what was your best buy ever at a gun show that was not a gun? I am talking about gun-related gear, but not guns.

My friend got a battle pack of .30-06 for 5 bucks.
And that was recently, guy must not have known what he had!

MY best deal however, was a gun. $150 bucks for a 1975 Rem700 covered in camo tape and nonsense.
Set back 5 bucks for stripper and varnish, the fine toothed comb I already had , and shes a 700$ rifle again. Recently traded for a Makarov and 300rds ammo, 2 holsters AND 20 bucks cash. Im good at those kind of things.

Other than the occasional 5 bucks/20 Nagant food, I dont really see any "deals"

Just Beef Jerkey. I have yet to find a good deal at a gun show.

Sometimes I enjoy just watching the interesting cross section of humanity that comes and goes from the gun shows. That can be worth the price of admission sometimes.

Nuts, I can't believe I missed that show. It is so much better than the Crossroads of the West show. Oh well, probably wouldn't have bought anything and money is tight right now anyway. Maybe in November.
A couple years ago at the Big Reno Show I got a knife sheath for my Buck 112 Folder that opens it up as I pull it out. Makes that classic quicker to deploy than any other folder I have seen. Very cool. I have seen these at a few shows since.

I bought a couple of Beretta 92 mags at the last gun show I attended. New in package, one was $20.00 the other was $15.00

Got a nice hardsided case with intergral lock for my pistol for 15 bucks from a nice old lady in Orlando because I mentioned that I was a student.
Beef jerky isn't the greatest price wise but it's better eating that the stuff at the stands.
I've also picked up 9x18 for right around 10 dollar a box a little while back.

Nothing too exciting though.

I got a nice bore light at a gun show. It lasted me 10 years until the bulb burned out. The light had a flexible neck allowing me to point the light in the direction I needed.

I bought another bore light to replace it but it isn't as good. If only I could get another bulb.

I needed a wood SKS stock and found a guy walking around carrying one. He wanted $10 but accepted a whole $5 for it. He had forgotten the gas tube cover. He promised to mail it to me. I wasn't holding my breath, but sure enough it showed up in the mail with a $2 postage.

So he made a whopping $3 on selling his nice wooden SKS stock!!! Set me back $5 and looks nice on my SKS.

Best one was a pile (6) of lightly used OEM Ruger 9mm mags for my P89DC at the costly price of $5 each. I spent $100 or so that day and filled a shopping bag with a pile of odds and ends, a holster, lots of reloading stuff, and brass. In all the years I have gone to gun shows this was my best all around day spent at one so far.

The Shotgun News Gun Show, as it used to be called in Reno was always the place to get primers and similar for good prices. A few years ago, I scored a case of .22 lr ammo - (6250 rounds, or 25 packs of 250 each, for $95 OTD. If you were into military regalia, they always had decent selections at reasonable prices

My best deal was on a ammo box" one of the old metal 308 cans" I payed a whopping 5 dollars for of it but was rusted shut. It was heavy so I figured it was full of old 308 ammo that was way past prime . Suprise to me when I opened it .It had twin S&W model10's 38 special wrapped in towels took a little of cleaning and function perfectly.I played the lotto that day and won 20 bucks on it to . the best old can I have ever opened .Now I search shows for old ammo cans that dont open maybe my lucky day again.

A few months ago at a Ft Worth show a guy had two ziplock bags of new 357 Starline brass. Said $10. I gave him a $20 and while he was trying to find change I woke up and said I would take them both. I figured they were 50 to a bag. Got home and they were 100 per bag.
I also bought a carton of 5000 CCI large pistol primers (1994 new old stock) for $100 a few months ago.

Factory wood grips (S&W and Colt) used to be dirt cheap at gun shows in the days before eBay. I've picked up many N-frame targets and diamond magna for $10 - $20 a pair.

Sorry couldn't resist. The only ones worth the trouble imo is the chili mac and the last batch I had had M&Ms advertising the Atlanta Olympics.
