Best lubricant to loosen milsurp front sights?Where to get Mauser sight pusher?

I have a few rifles that need the front sight tapped to adjust windage that I don't or can't get a sight pusher for.


What do you recommend to lubricate the sights with that won't harm the bluing or finish?


And......

I have Persian 98/22,K98,1895 Mauser,M24 Mauser,Yugo,Swedish 96 and M38 Mauser,VZ24......and more.I would like sight tools to ease adjusting the windage,anybody recommend where to get these,and one that might handle several of these?

Ebay and Gunbroker has some sometimes but any other sources and personal feedback on the quality?

Kroil overnight will loosen any part. But don't breath the fumes! It's real potent stuff.

thanks Cosmoline,I guess that's what you use?Being a milsurp king that you are what do you usually do,tap the front sights or use sight tools?

I got a LT sight tool for the Mosin's and it made it so easy instead of tap tap tap.


Speaking of cosmoline,I just got a Yugo 24/47 covered in it,suggestions?

Propane. Burning, from a torch. Front sights are usually pretty frozen, and warming the dovetail up will make them drift easier. Don't get it cherry, but a little heat helps.

Doesn't hurt the bluing at all if you're careful. Things expand when they warm up, and it loosens the dovetail. Also, if there's congealed cosmo in there, that'll melt out of the way too.

Then carefully tap with a brass punch or rubber mallet, and you're good. I've swapped out at least four or five sights using the above method. No big deal.

I've never had to use a torch on it, and kroil doesn't hurt the blue. Just apply to the area, leave for awhile, then use a brass tap or a tool if you have that. I've never had one stick after kroil.
