I'm looking to refinish my XD slide in matte black- something durable that does not look painted on. I have heard good things about: Roguard, Birdsong Black T and CCR Ceramic. Can anyone share their knowledge/experience on this subject. Thank you.

I know melanite is excellent, but isn't it a treatment rather than a finish? I would like to alter the current washed-out color to a smooth matte black.

This is some seriously good stuff. Comes in many different colors and shades. I used the Flat Grey Black on a Springfield MilSpec and it turned out great. The Military uses it to refinish M16's and a certain custom gunsmith from the hills of Arkansas also uses it on some of his creations.

On my pisol, I refinished the frame and left the slide in the original parkerized finish. The Norell MolyResin I used is a close match in appearance to that of a Bushmaster XM15E2S finish.

I now prefer it over other bake on type coatings I've used over the years.

FWIW, it wears like iron. Check out the link above for info.

I am not connected in any way to them, just highly recommend their products.

Lube-rite(I believe it's a trade name for black phosphating) or parkerizing. Parkerizing can be done in black.
