So I've been checking the web for Yugo M57 Tokarevs. These are the sites I've found:

I know that J&G still has some, but they don't seem to be in the best of shape. My real question is which of these companies is the best to work with, both with C&R and dealer transfers (I'm still trying to decide about the C&R license, but that's a different topic). Who has good shipping, or fast processing? Thanks.

I've always had good luck with AIMSurplus with my C&R. In the past AIMsurplus has sold out of things pretty quick and they tend to have fair pricing/grading. J&G had some "very good" condition M57s until recently but they must have sold out and I agree the "good" condition ones are a little rough looking (though internally still sound, IIRC). If you decide to go for the C&R you might also look into Southern Ohio Gun.

My last two purchases (C&R that is) were from Samco Global and RGuns and were on the whole positive but I don't think they're carrying the Yugo M57s at this point. The C&R was a no brainer for me (the $30 application was cheaper than a single transfer in my area) but the wait time was a killer. I know I'm biased but I can't forsee doing business with classicarms given the overtly religious nature of the company (the same with crossbreed holsters). It's entirely their perogative of course but it just rubs me the wrong way and so I choose to vote with my dollars elsewhere.

Some of the Gander Mountains here in MN carry them fairly regularly. This way you may get to pick through a few and find the best one.

I ordered an M57 from AIM Surplus on Sunday after reading this post (thanks for the idea shotgunjoel). It arrived today, Thursday, in the mail (yay C&R!). I chose the handpick option and shipping (to the east coast) cost about $19 (UPS 2nd Day Air).

The overall finish was pretty decent (I'd say 90-95% blued) with mostly holster wear. It was of course covered in cosmoline (but not as bad as some milsurps I've bought). I of course took everything down to clean it out and all the internals were in great shape. The muzzle crown is in good shape and the rifleing is strong...there appeared to be a bit of pitting in the grooves but after a good cleaning it turned out to be minimal (not bad for a corrosive ammo firing gun). The half cock and thumb safeties work very well (I much prefer the thumb safety over the type often found on the Romanian TTs). I haven't had a chance to fire it yet as I'm waiting for the surplus 7.62x25 Polish ammo to arrive from J&G (also ordered Sunday). The pistol came with 2 mags (should be 9rd mags but I can't confirm until my ammo comes in), a cleaning rod and a leather holster (mine was in decent shape).

All in all, I'm very happy with it. The gun feels and points great for me and I'm very happy with the purchase. It should be a fun gun (especially with such cheap ammo...I paid about $20 for 280 rds). I've included some pictures to help you get an idea of what AIM Surplus is currently selling (remember it was a handpicked though). I definitely recommend picking one up and my experience with AIM was great (I called with a question, they picked up after the first ring and quickly and pleasantly answered it). Feel free to ask/pm me if you have any questions about the gun or my experience with AIM Surplus. I hope it turns out as positively for you as it did for me!

Pictures (what you've been waiting for...haha)...sorry if they're a bit blurry, I couldn't find the camera so had to use my cell phone, the finish is a darker blue than it appears in the picture due to the cell phone:

The whole package (note the decent holster...I think one of the better available).

The pistol itself...finish is in good condition, I'd say strong blue over 90-95% (the finish is a bit darker than it appears in the pcitures, sorry for the poor camera).

Disassembled.

With it's American cousin the 1911 (a Cimarron 1911).

Just out of curiosity, I tried it in my 1911 Comp-Tac MTAC Minotaur 1911 IWB holster...it worked pretty well (biggest difference seemingly the width of the trigger guard). I don't think it will replace my 1911 or XD as an EDC but will make a fine range or woods/farm gun.

Read up on how to carry one (sorry but, it ain't any gun, it's an OLD gun, with OLD issues, mainly being not safe to carry with on in the pipe)

Otherwise it's a BLAST, quite literally, make sure you use plugs and muffs when you take her out.

Don't worry Shadow 7D, I have NO intention of making it an EDC pistol...the picture in the MTAC holster was just for fun. My EDC is either an XD 45 Compact or my 1911. I may bring the Tokarev out when I'm out in my woods/family farm as I won't have a heart attack if it gets banged up a bit...but if I was going to do so it'll be in the original leather holster and without one in the pipe. I think frankly it'll become a fun range gun (it fits my big hands really well and points naturally well for me, like my 1911).

Edit regarding carrying a M57 with a round in the chamber. Shadow 7D is right. This design does NOT use an inertial firing pin. With the hammer down, the firing pin will be resting against the primer. In other words - don't fully lower the hammer on a loaded chamber!

Looks like both AIM and J&G are out now. Glad I got one from AIM while they had them, this is a nice pistol. Ammo brick arrived today, time for some fun!

Damn sold out already....glad I got one. It was delivered today. It looks great, I'm quite happy. Thanks AIM

I plan on eventually carrying one of mine for hiking. They're wonderful firearms.
One of my biggest surprises was how much less felt recoil was apparent as compared to a CZ-52 with the same ammunition. The trigger on both my M57s are significantly lighter (though a bit spongier) than my CZ-52 was, enhancing accuracy for me.

I think they make for an excellent C&R purchase.

Where To Buy A Hugo Tokarev

I ordered my Tokarev from J&G Sales. Holster was a mess cause of all the cosmoline and use usless. After the clean up found the gun was in great shape. Good finish, very tight and good grips. I found J&G people worlked very well with me. After I did the clean up I installed a white dot front and white dot rear adjustable sight. Gun cost $201.95 to my door.

wolfen1949, looks like you got a nice one as well! I bought mine somewhat on a whim and I'm really glad I did. It's definitely a keeper. Happy shooting!

Update on earlier post: I got the 7.62x25 polish surplus in from J&G and the gun was a blast to shoot. I was fairly impressed with the accuracy and am a very happy customer (and yes, once the ammo was in, I can definitely confirm my AIM gun came with two 9rd mags).

I ordered mine from Wideners. The order process was fairly simple. Called them up, placed the order - it showed up a few days later. No muss, no fuss.

The pistol was PACKED with cosmoline that took me the better part of a Saturday to clean out, but that appears to be standard fare with these regardless of where you buy from. The holster had some mold on it, but was cosmoline-free and most of the mold actually cleaned off with an alcohol scrub (followed by a cleaning with baby shampoo).

I have no complaints.

FYI, though my Tokarev wasn't ordered from them, I've ordered quite a few other C&R guns through AIM Surplus and have no complaints there either (as a matter of fact, I just placed an order with them for a Walther P1, as they have those back in stock and at a good price).

One plus that I see is that AIM apparently will allow you to digitally upload a copy of your C&R license rather than having to mail it in. If you're worried about something selling out and don't already have a license on file, shaving those 2-3 days off of the time for your license to get there really helps.

I can't comment on any of these in regards to dealer transfer however - I have only placed C&R orders with them.

My Tokarev

Picture of my Tokarev, I fitted a 9mm barrel to it then reamed it out to 9x23. I Sarco was out of 9mm barrel bushings , So I put the barrel in my mini lathe and turned it to same size as the 7.62 barrel. I did some ramp work and gun will now feed hollow points, soft points and even cast bullets. I also added an extended slide stop. I can shoot 7.62x25, 30 mauser. 9x23, .38 super comp. 9x23 out of same gun. soon will start making a set of grips for it.

I bought mine 2/1/11, from J & G.
I had a bit of an issue, but J&G fixed it immediately!

The holster button flap was torn, so you couldn't close it, the cleaning rod was missing & one of the mags wouldn't seat decent, so the gun would act like the mag wasn't there.

I called J&G they replaced the holster with one that looks like it's never been used, they sent a cleaning rod & replaced the magazine. No fuss, no hassles.

This is the 2nd item I've ordered from them & will definitely call 'em again in the future.
(bought an AR15A1 from 'em - love that one too!)

I recently purchased a nice Yugo M57 from Wrigley Ammo.

http://wrigleyammo.com/product.aspx...stol+For+Sale+Very+Good+Condition&groupid=117

He has some for $210 and some for $220. I was very pleased with the price, condition of the gun, and their timely shipping. I have fired about 60 rounds through it and can't say anything bad about it. My brother also purchased one with similar results.

Are you firing all of the rounds that you mentioned but the 7.62 out of the same barrel? Forgive my ignorance but do they also feed from a common 9mm magazine? If so where did you find the magazine?
