Best red dot for the money?

I think I’ve narrowed it down to the Primary Arms advanced micro dot (149.99) or the Sig Romeo 5 (134.99). Any strong opinions about either one over the other? I was going to possibly go with TRS-25, but I read about a few problems with new ones. LGS recommended Vortex Strikefire 2, and had them for around $150

It would be a no brainer for me to take a Strike Eagle over the Romeo or the Primary Arms Micro.

But...there is no way a Strike Eagle sells for $150.00 unless it is either a refurb, used or your LGS is trying to sell you a Crossfire II. I’ve also never heard of a Strike Eagle 2.

I’d take the Sig or Primary Arms over any Crossfire II any day. Many will not agree but to me the Crossfire II is an abomination.

You are correct. It is a Strikefire 2, not a strike Eagle. I just got them confused.

I have a StrikeFire on my AR. The StrikeFire weighs about twice as much as the Romeo5 (11 oz vs. 6 oz), but the glass is also about twice as clear. The red-tinted lens on the Romeo5 puts a slight bluish hue on everything. Not a huge deal, but noticeable.

Between the Primary Arms and Romeo 5 I'd probably go with the SIG, but that's largely because I'm really impressed so far with my Romeo 4.

I think for purely a range gun the TRS-25 is hard to beat if you haven't completely ruled that out. I have two from 2012 that are still going strong, one of those is on my Buckmark and get's used at least twice a month and the other get's moved back and forth between a SIG 522, a Marlin .357, and an M&P 15 Sport. It even took a couple cylinders while on a .44 mag Anaconda, basically just enough to range it in. I also bought a "new model" TRS-25 this past March to put on my daughters M&P 15-22. I know 3 months of use isn't much to go on but it still works fine, and the red dot is actually a little cleaner than the dot on my older TRS-25's.

I have not owned nor used the Primary Arms Micro Dot so I really can't compare it to the SIG Romeo 5. But if you have a tendency to forget to turn your red dot off, I think you would appreciate the MOTAC feature of the Romeo 5. When the Romeo 5 detects motion, the dot comes back on at the prior intensity setting. So not only do you not need to turn it on, you don't need to fiddle around with a rotary knob setting to get the intensity where you want it.

There’s a battlefield Vegas optics thread on AR15.com. The Sig Romeo passed the test. It’s on page 8 of the thread.

My Scorpion has worn a TRS-25 its whole life, co-witnesses perfectly with the factory irons, works perfectly, best red dot I ever had and the price was excellent.
