Best rifles overall

I was a Browning fan myself for a long time... until I got my first Remington. I do love the Savage rifles, too, but I'm not a fan of their stocks.

Remington gets my vote.
I have a Remington 721 in .30-06 and a 700 in .270. I've traded away many non-Remingtons.

Remington ... I have three ... but I'm hoping that I win a Savage since I've heard so much about them. Remington's aren't perfect but with 3/3 in terms of accuracy, reliability, fit and finish it's hard to fault them.

I'm waiting to hear from some member(s) who owns a few of both (made in the last 5 years). It'd be interesting to hear their opinions on what they like or don't like and how each of them performs.

:)

price being no object: Accuracy International

Given the OP's list, I was thinking along the lines of hunting rifles but if we're talking bolt actions for any purpose then I agree whole heartedly.

Other,

of the brands you listed Remington, then Tikka, Savage and then Browning. It is hard to say which is best because different brands have their strengths and weaknesses.

The brands you listed are known for accuracy, but not necessaraly reliability. If I had to pick best all around with no price limits I would look at Winchester, Sako, Current Rugers, Kimber or a custom built around a Mauser type action.

I would say overall it would have to be remington, but then they have that silly 710 and 770, but the 700 is an awesome one.

Savage's are nice, hard to beat, but then I had that 93R17 .17 hmr that shot minute of skoal can at 100 yards no matter what I tried.

I can't say anything bad about my Tikka .243

Pretty much any of the brands you listed you won't go wrong with.

Rifle favorites

.

Hunting -- Winchester Model 70

Target -- Remington M700

But I also like the Ruger no.1 and the Browning/Winchester 1885's.

For fun I shoot a lot of mausers of various breeds.

in bolt actions where price is no object: remington 700.
if price is a huge concern, then i must say it is the remington 700.

Price being no concern: Custom
Price being a concern: Savage

Favorite?

Easy, my all time favorites are all Winchester M70's with a bias toward Customized Pre'64 M70's[ I'm on my second barrel for my primary, a Pre 64 30/06 ]. I'm currently very pleased with a couple of SAKO's and a TIKKA that I've been shooting and hunting with this past year. The current SAKO 85's are simply fantastic in every way, and you can't beat the value/performance with regards to accuracy and great "shotability" of the TIKKA T3.

You're asking BEST?

Edited due to me seeing you said "turnbolt" rifles:

Blaser
AI
Sako
Weatherby Mark V
Steyr
Cooper
Anchutz
*Full Custom*

those are good starts.

I personally don't own any of those, because I'm a "good enough"/ good value kind of guy. It's hard to get a bad bolt rifle.

It's interesting how certain forums have pockets of brand loyalists. In a question of BEST rifles Savage doesn't make my list.

Pre 64 Winchester
Sako
Cooper
Weatherby
Remington
M70 CRF
Browing
T/C
Ruger
