Best round for rifle caliber Silhouette

There is an excellent case to be made for straight-wall cartridges for Silhouette.
Nice, big, fat, heavy bullets of reasonable accuracy are good for "taking" plates.

But, there's an argument to be made for easy-to-shoot higher-velocity rounds like 25-06, 243, and similar (6arc, too) for being able to put a precision "pill" right where the plate wants it.

Some of the "deciding" will be down to your preference, or the local league/club rules on glass and the like. Used to be a dude at my old club who would drop in and smoke the rest of us with a hardware-store Carbine and brown-box 110gr FMJ

Were I young, and so inclined today, 6.5cm and an LVPO would be an attractive combo.

Those are all a different class. Lever action rifle caliber only. I do shoot varmit with a 6br.

The 38-55 is the parent case to the 32 Win, 30-30, and 25-35. My understanding is Marlin produced a 25-36 to compete, but it was nominally the same round. Since they are the same ‘cases’, hopefully Marlin will look at the family. A small coincidence…Hornady produces the LEVERevolution in 32, 30-30, and 25-35…not that the ammo or guns are available….let alone where is the 38-55….

I really want a 25-35 and a 38-55! I have a 30-30. Some reason, the 32 does not do anything for me….

I was keen on getting a 35 rem. The brass is not very plentiful, and if the 360 buckhamer shows up in a Marlin, and brass becomes plentiful I'll drop the 35 rem idea and just get one of those. I'd be most happy with a 357max lever but if it was going to happen the 360 killed that idea.

for whatever reason a recently acquired 32 win spec out shoots any lever gun i ever had. that includes 38 55 730 and a ton of other 3030s. just saying....bobn

The 160 gr Hornady “tipped” .30-30 bullets shoot really well in my Win 1894’s, trajectory is a touch flatter than FN or RN bullets and that could help in the silhouette game (I haven’t shot rifle silhouette, just cowboy pistol on reduced size targets/ranges). I load over 34.5 gr LeveRevolution powder and they shoot well.

Just a thought. :)

Stay Safe.

I do have a big pile of those bullets, many ranges only allow cast to be shot at their animals. I'm not saying that some people still shoot Hard cast in complete opposition to the reason cast is required, but those dam animals are not cheap. My current range requires it, and they had not previously allowed rifle caliber be shot, but I demonstrated my round did not damage anything.... in complete contrast 45c shot with Hard cast with stiff loads of w296 absolutely left dents. Loads developed for 200 yard shoots are excessive for 100 yard shoots.
