Describe what you think it the best way to store your Ready Gun, ( Shotgun or Rifles in this case )
I have a Rem 870 that I use for mine. I don't like to lock and unlock it every day. What works for you guys/ gals??

I keep my shotgun with the magazine loaded but with no round chambered under my bed at night and then lock it in my cabinet (which is secure and hidden in my closet) during the day. Something happens, I can grab it, hit the slide release and cock it in far less time than it would take someone to make it from the front door to my bedroom. I'm a light sleeper and have two roomates who are also light sleepers about halfway in between the only door and my room. I always figure if I hear them shout or raise an alarm I'll have an edge.

On the other hand, if we ever have guests or ESPECIALLY if my younger sisters are over, I sleep with it completely unloaded with a box of 000 buckshot in my nightstand. My way of thinking is that if someone were able to get the unloaded shotgun, find the shells, load it and use it it would be well beyond and accident, and since I'm always home when the gun is out of the cabinet...I don't worry too much.

Don't know if this is 100% the best way, but I feel secure (both from attacks and potential accidents) this way. Takes about 1 minute every morning and night to get the shotgun to/from the cabinet, and I'm in my closet getting dressed anyways.

I'm going to assume that you mean "Ready" for home defense. I like those small gun safes with a keypad on the front. I've got one bolted to the shelf and wall of my bedroom closet and it can be accessed pretty quickly. A flashlight is kept next to it for power outages or if you want to open the safe without turning on a light and announcing, "I'm up."
Is my home defense gun immediately accessable? No. But then again it's not immediately accessable to my daughter or her friends. In a few years when it's just me and my wife at home the storage will probably change.

Carry it around? It may sound like a hassle, but hey. Before I got my thigh holster, I would carry my CETME or my AK around in a sling.

Right now, I keep my Sig P226 Elite in the nightstand drawer next to my side of the bed. Full mag inserted, slide locked open. Then I have the 870 in my bedroom closet with a box of shells on the shelf above it.

We have our first baby due in January and I will have to come up with a more secure storage soon. Have asked Santa for a small gun safe just big enough for my pistol. But honestly don't know which kind is best yet.

On a shelf on my nightstand whenever I am home. Magazine loaded, but not a round chambered, and safety off...I should have time to rack the slide before anyone can get back to bedroom (dogs). Small tactical light next to it, cell phone on shelf above it.

If anyone breaks in while I'm elsewhere in home, the bedroom is the safe room that I retreat to.

If I'm not home and the gun is not with me, it is locked in a small gunsafe.

Also: there are no kids in home and few visiting. If I have visitors in general, I put gun in nightstand drawer or lock it up. Also2: When I carry the gun, I do have a round chambered.

When I am in bed, in the night stand with the cell phone, magazine loaded, no round in the chamber. We sleep upstairs so if anyone will enter our house uninvited will have my rottweiler for a welcoming committee first. Otherwise, the rest of the time I am awake, my gun is with me. Mossberg 500 near my husband's bed on the other side. His 1911 with him when he is awake.

Three loaded carry guns in a quick access safe next to my bed, and an M4gery on the other side, mag loaded, chamber empty. Glasses, cellphone, and a 230 lumen flashlight are on the nightstand. Until I get in bed, at least one of those carry guns is on my person.

I sleep pretty well. :)

Remington 870 loaded with 00 buck, round chambered, safety off. It is currently stored on the top shelf in the bedroom closet, though I'm gonna have to find an alternative as my daughter gets bigger. Glock 36 loaded with Federal Hydrashoks, round chambered, stored in a DAC SportSafe beside my bed when it's not on my hip. Everything else is in the big safe in the basement.

CoRoMo, I really like that setup. We'll be building another house in the next few years -- gonna keep that in mind. What kind of lock is on the door? It looks to be a manual push button lock, similar to what is seen on real estate key boxes but I can't tell for sure.

A 130 Lb Rottweiler that drinks out of the toilet bowl that is meaner than a run over half dead opossum and my ex-wife and a Mossberg 500 18" bbl Cruiser.

SKS, .410 single, Taurus .17Hmr pump, .22 bolt in a wall rack behind where I'm sitting. Two 9mm's I can reach without leaving chair. Puma .357 lever standing in a nearby corner. P3AT in pocket all the time. BB gun by the back door. Security Six in bedroom. Most are out of sight.ALL ARE LOADED AND READY.

I have my 18" Moss 500 under my side of the bed in a special holder I made, w/ a tac lite on it, full mag tube, none in chamber. Marlin 336 30-30 standing in corner behind a full wall shelf and CD rack, can't see it if you don't know it's there. A Browning BuckMark 22 in a holder behind my night stand, full mag. My CC P11 with full mag and 1 in chamber in my daily pack in the living room, readily accessable. Plus a bolt action Moss 22 and Marlin 60 on stand by for varmint duty, one in garage and one in bedroom closet.

Some of you guys are really" loaded for bear " I am wanting a quick access lock for the one 870 where it would be safe during the day while I am at work, but be easy to get to in a hurry. I am familiar with what is on the market now most are too slow for my peace of mind. Our area has had a couple of home invasions in the past year and I want to prepare ahead of time.
Thanks for your input on the topic so far.

There are some quick release shotgun racks/locks similar to what police use in their cruisers, as well as things like the life jacket (Website Here that don't really secure it from being stolen but can keep curious young hands from making it function.
What is your situation? Single/house empty during the day? Married/want wife to be able to use it if needed? Kids in the house?

Right now i just keep a loaded magazine for my ar-15 in my bullet box. I rotate the mags every night before I go to sleep. The AR-15 is in my closet. My father keeps a loaded magazine in his Walther PPS with out a round in the chamber. He has Mossberg 500. I dont know why he doesnt keep a few shells in the magazine tube.

AR-15- hammer forward, empty chamber, selector is on "fire" of course, bolt forward. Loaded mag in the well, just yank the charging handle and it is ready to go. That applies to pretty much every weapon in my house, really, empty chamber, hammer forward, off safe, unless it is on my hip.
