Not the best ever but the old iron sighted M-1A got dragged out recently for the first time in 6 years. Shot up some of my old reloads from the late 1990's when I was still shooting NRA High Power. 100 yards from a solid bench rest. An NRA 100 yard High Power target. The black is 6 inches across. 10-10-18 Load 9 100 yd. (2).JPG IMG_2684.JPG IMG_2685.JPG Not bad for me with late 60's eyes. That's the second 5 shot group... First got covered with masking tape and blackened with a magic marker.

Hi All, I'm well over 70 and still shooting on a very regular basis. I have had a few problems with my eyes but still manage quite well. I have Macular degeneration in my right eye and several years ago had to switch to an unusual shooting style, I shoot right handed but with my left eye, It looks odd but after I mastered it, I am close to my original shooting skills.
This is a recent target using my Dan Wesson 15-4 with the 6 inch barrel. Its an impressive pistol and sees a good mix of 38 SPL as well as .357 hot loads. This target was shot with 38 Spl 158G LSWC and loaded on the warm side. Just about 980 fps per the chrono.
I will be happy if I can keep up this type of target!
Having fun every week!
oops forgot to note the distance is 10 Yards

Good shooting!

My right eye going fast (@82) w/macular plus cataract. Hoping it holds up well enough to shoot a scoped rifle for a while; hate to have to try & learn to shoot left handed at this late date.

Regards,
hps

Can you not have the cataract removed? I just had it done for both eyes, and I am a new man. Sharp distance vision. Only remaining problem is the presbyopia, but progressive glasses take care of that very well. Plano on top and progressive down to reading at the bottom. Very sweet for shooting.

Hang in there HPS. I was scared stiff when I realized I was losing my shooting eye and believe it or not, It was easier to master left eye shooting than I figured it was going to be. Two fairly long range sessions and I was printing in the black, I did get several comments about the unusual stance I use but what the heck, it works. My left eye is ok but I had a cataracts removed from both eyes and have implanted lenses and have to use variable focus bifocals. I worked with my eye doctor and by tilting my head back I can get a fairly decent sight picture,( not as good as it used to be, but good enough to still shoot pretty well and continue to enjoy my hobby. So hang in there and when it gets too bad, give the left eye a try, Might get a pleasant surprise. I can just about see enough to shoot with a scope on a rifle with the right eye but I have to employ a technique commonly called "scanning" You can talk about it with your eye specialist. Most are very helpful. So anyway just wanted to say I think you will be able to find a way around the problem. Good luck and keep on shooting!

Fortunately, the macular has not progressed very rapidly; may be speeding up a bit lately, or could be the cataract has complicated things. I know I sure can't see like I did not too long ago. The cataract is ready to operate, but wife needs to get hers done first, hopefully hers in Dec. and mine as soon as she can drive.

The progressive lenses work pretty well for handgun shooting, but as I get tired, I tend to drop my chin unconsciously resulting in poor sight picture. I find a set of drugstore reading glasses that work pretty well as a compromise.

I've been fighting aging eyes for some 30 years. Had to give up Service Rifle Competition in late 80's, switched to bolt gun which allowed aperture sights until the turn of the century, when I gave up competition and took up coyote hunting. Leaving my NM M1 sitting idle in the safe bothered me until I came up with a no-drill mount and had a gunsmith friend build it for me. Shot a fastfire II red dot for a while, but not the best for my eyes so recently mounted a 3x prism scope on it and hope to take a coyote with the old girl.

Kinda spoiled her girlish figure, and the reticle is a bit busy for this old man, but she's shootin' pretty sweet once more.

44307469841_54d66dfa61.jpg Five shot group, took 4 clicks left and +2 and shot five more (100 yds). Hope I can see the reticle well enough in the field as compared to the white target.

htp, your wife can drive the day after her cataract surgery. You could follow her the next day, alternate eyes with her and both be completely done in a couple of weeks.

IMG_2550.JPG This is a 5 shot group at 100 yards from my AR-15. White Oak Varmint upper. Ammo was as listed, 55 gr. Vmax reloads from Freedom Munitions.
IMG_2553.JPG Another group with my White Oak, this time 75 gr Hornady Frontier ammo. Still at 100 yards.
IMG_2551.JPG This is a 10 shot group at 100 yards from my Winchester Extreme Weather 7mm-08 shooting Remington 140gr accutip factory ammo. The two flyers were my last two shots and I knew I pulled them. I know the gun is capable of better, the nut behind the trigger needs some work.

This was by far my best day of shooting I have ever had. I wish they all went as good as this!

Here's a few of my best targets over the years - rifle and pistol.
Savage 12-F. 6mmbr. 5 shots at 200 yards from bench.
8gTKHK5t.jpg
Browning 150 Match .22lr pistol....20 yards, one handed, open sights.
7F7Nt6zt.jpg
BSA Martini International .22lr. 20 yards, prone, unsupported, aperture sights.

And just shot in the last few weeks.
Savage 12-F. 6.5-284. 1,000yds. 8 consecutive shots into 7.2". from bench/scope.
Z1GVrYLt.jpg
Walther air pistol, 33 feet (10M)..One handed, unsupported, open sights.
