I bought a .40 hi point fairly recently to keep in my vehicle because it's cheap, more powerful than the keltec that I usually pack everywhere with me when I travel, and because it's not something that's going to cause me to shed any tears if it ever got stolen, due to the fact that it's ugly and has no personality whatsoever.
I've got a couple boxes of the cheap remington 165gr (I think that's what grain they are anyway), and it's accurate and reliable with those so far, but I've only put about 1 box through it.
I originally wanted a 9mm due to the cheaper ammo cost and the fact that I already have 2 other 9mms and a bunch of ammo in that caliber, and because I know 9mm is one of the best penetrating auto calibers, but they were out of 9mm hi points, and I don't like .45acp, and .380 isn't any more practical than .32acp. I never really saw the point of the .40 until I read up on it a little more, but now I'd take it over a sack full of .45acp's any day of the week. My .40 kicks quite a bit more than my .45 did too, for what it's worth.
Because I keep this in my car, I figure I should get a round that penetrates good against car bodies and stuff too, instead of just a HP.
Doubletap is generally some of the hottest ammo, and the most economical of the high performance ammo manufacturers, but it looks to me like most of their loads are geared towards SD and hunting.
So what's the best brand of ammo for this application? What grain of bullet would be best? FMJ, HP, SP, hardcast, etc.?
