Well I'm thinking of refinishing my magazines and I few small parts on my cz 75b and I'm looking for the best undercoating. I was thinking of parkerizing and then top coating them with gun koat but is there something better for an underfinish? And by better I mean more rust resistant as that is my main goal here. I plan on sanding the mags and parts down to a super high polish first and that should help with the pours but is there some really good undercoating that fights rust. Thanks

A number of military type arms are parkerized with a paint overcoat. Without constant attention, parkerizing itself isnt really all that great a rust preventative.

Paint on the other hand, works very well, and the paint doesnt have to be anything really special either. Ive been painting guns since the late 60's, and have removed paint from a couple of guns that had been panted over 25 years, and other than a couple of spots where the finish had worn off from use over the years, the finish underneath was a good as the day the paint was applied.

Now with the magazines, youre probably going to have an issue with paint and wear, due to the nature of how they are used. Id also have to wonder if the added thickness of some of the paints might not cause you some grief. If it were me, and rust was that much of an issue, Id probably just have them hard chromed, and leave it at that.

Don't plan on sending it off anywhere so it's going to have to be something I can do.
