3. You can legally send your guns to yourself. No FFL needed.
Neither UPS or FedEx will deliver to a nonlicensee. USPS will only accept rifles and shotguns from nonlicensees for shipment.

4. It's going to be brutally expensive to send them via common carrier. Just get some good hard cases and pay the airline to haul them.
Even cheaper is shipping the long guns UPS/FedEx Ground and having a dealer mail the handguns via USPS Priority Mail.

I understand if I shipped them via ups/fedex they would have to go to a FFL dealer.

That is incorrect. You can ship them directly to yourself.
No, it is correct.
While Federal law allows you to ship firearms addressed to yourself in another state, neither UPS or FedEx will accept a shipment addressed to a nonlicensee.

Yes. I've sold 8 firearms since I moved to Oregon 2 years ago from Alabama.

You might want to be careful about saying how many in X number of years. Sadly the BATFE have prosecuted people for dealing without a license for much less...
Nonsense. There is no limit on the number of firearms a person can sell per year/month/day. The violation of Federal law occurs when you engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license. ATF defines engaging in the business as the repetitive buying and selling of firearms for profit. If you have 1,000 guns in your collection you can legally sell them all on the same day without need for an FFL. If you buy one gun today with the intent to resell it for profit tomorrow......you may be engaging in the business and better have an FFL.

There's a case where a guy was charged and convicted of dealing without a license after selling two guns in something like three years. This happened just a few years ago. As I recall he sold two double rifles from his collection. I'll try and find the link.

Small world. My wife and I lived outside of Knoxville, TN for 7 years. I would agree that Portland is nicer than Knoxville, though it was cheaper to live in Knoxville. Our house in TN was 1/2 the price of our current house in OR and twice the size. I don't miss mowing an acre lawn one bit - lesson learned there!

Is there a law that says you have to tell them what's in the package? Honest question, I don't know.
