RCBS rock chucker or LEE classic cast, should have been the choices that FMNNC compared in his recent poll of rock chucker vs challenger. lets see what the verdict is when apples are compared to apples. i vote for the classic cast
I should have put the Classic Cast up against the Rock Chucker. From all of the replies I'm going to predict that the Classic Cast will win out. Let's find out.
I know I am against the grain here with my vote to the RC...
But there is a difference, IMO between a 1 year warranty and a LIFETIME warranty.
One shows me that they have SOME confidence...the other shows a little more.
Now...I have a Lee Turret press and a hand press that I use quite a bit...but when it comes to things like forming brass for my 416 Taylor, well...I prefer something big and green...and no, not the Hulk. Or Redding...although they are good too but wrong green.
I'm not taking a thing away from your choice of the RC - it certainly is a great press. I simply belive the Classic Cast is of the same strength, has higher clearance, better primer disposal (and priming) and it's made here in the USA. I understand what you are saying about the warranty, but I suspect that Lee figures that if you have the press for two years (not 1) then the press is fine and there really isn't much to go wrong. I'm sure that no matter what the material is, there are some people that could break titantium and Lee probably figures that after two years, you should share in the responsiblity. I don't know, but I would imagine that helps keep the price down too as you aren't paying for lifetime support of those very few who need it.
Again though - I don't have a thing against the RC, just think it's overpriced, you are paying for the warranty which well over 95% of people won't need, especially after two years.
Without any question the Lee Classic Cast Press is superior to the Rockchucker Supreme in terms of innovation, construction and price. With the LCC you get a larger ram, a superior primer catcher system and the ability to place one of the nicest on press priming systems available on the press, not to mention that you can load 50 BMG rounds on it. With the RCBS you do indeed get a good press, but wouldn’t it be nice to see RCBS update this press to be more comparable to the LCCP or the newer Redding presses?
