Big Brass Score at the Range Today

Hey, if you went someplace and saw dozens or hundreds of nickles and dimes laying on the ground, wouldn't you pick them up? Brass is the same thing to me. If you buy used brass you're gonna pay 5-10 cents apiece for them, maybe more, depending on what they are. Even if I don't reload that caliber, somebody does. I'll happily trade with someone, but I've also been known to give away LOTS of brass to guys looking for something that I just happen to have a few dozen of. It's good karma.

Absolutely!!!

I know of one public range where the brass pickin' is always very productive, but it's at close to 10,000 feet in altitude, so it's a struggle for this fat old man. I'll still do it though, never claimed to be very bright. I'll probably drop dead someday while picking up $5 worth of brass.

I went out to a shooting area near my house tonight, thinking I'd never find any good brass there because it tends to get picked up as it's shot. Right near the entrance I found about 50 each of 45 and 357 and a few 223 and 270. My son helped me pick it up between shooting sessions. Made a good day shooting even better.

THE answer for fat guys, old guys, tired guys, etc. that like to pick up brass! (Just in case I offended anyone, I fit all the above categories, so there!) We have some of these where I shoot and they work great.

Last week I found 250 once fired .44 mag brass and 100 .45 ACP brass in the same brass bucket. I kept looking around for a hidden camera, I never have found more than 1 or 2 .44 cases at one time before.

Thanks! I do agree with those, but after rearranging my brass stash this weekend, I've realized that I may have "issues". I really don't think I need to drag home any more brass. I probably don't even need to pick up the ones that I shoot, but I still will. I doubt I'll ever get all the brass I have loaded up even once, and wearing any out just ain't gonna happen.

If the cops ever raided my house for some reason, I'd damn sure make the evening news. "Local gun nut arrested with "arsenal" of weapons and tens of thousands rounds of ammuntion. Was surely bent on destruction of modern civilization. Film at 11."

Jeeze, I'm just a fat old man that likes shiny things that go bang.....

Speaking of brass, I need to go empty the tumbler and refill it!

A little better than a normal Monday yesterday.

43 - .40 S&W
41 - .38 Special
42 - .45 ACP
188 - 9mm

When I sort I toss all 9mm Win, F-C, and R-P into one can, and the rest into another. Occasionally raid the Win, etc can clean them and put them into line. If I ever run short I will use the mixed cans.
Same with .45. I keep Win and R-P separate and put into rotation.

I love going to the range after our Swat Teams get done practicing, the last time I went home with three five gallon buckets of once fired .223 cartridge cases plus all the drops of live ammo.

Below, just sorting through the Remington cases, washing, tumbling, uniforming and sizing. It was one of those happy warm feeling days that even bleeding, numb fingers wouldn't stop the humungous brass afterglow. :D

P.S. Not in the photo are two more buckets with Military Federal and Lake City Brass that need the military crimp removed from the primer pockets.

P.P.S Eat your hearts out...............:neener:

A box of 44 Mag

Last week, at the indoor range/LGS I frequent, a young lady rented a .44 Mag and shot a box of Federal, being very considerate and putting the empties back in the box. I asked her for them and brought them home. Do I even own a 44? Of course not, but it will be good trading fodder. I just couldn't see that whole box going into the brass bin. I also got a box of 38 spcl from her sister. Not bad for not even having to scoop them off the floor.

If only I had grabbed the 40 Pcs of .50 AE that the one guy shot last month. Didn't even think of it that day. :banghead:

A table load of enbloc clips for Garand... dang, that's a good find.....there had to be a matching number of 06 brass X 8 on the ground to match... probably Greek Mfg, but WHO CARES ???? I remember when you could by them all day long for a dime... not anymore !!!!

When I was a kid, the National Guard unit used our gun clubs range to qualify, they would leave behind all the brass, and metal ammo boxes, often time full and partial cans... Twice I ran out there when they posted that the range would be closed for outside quals. and waited for them to leave... sometime you could score pretty good... ahh the good old day's when the Guvmint only wasted millions and left it were the average guy could benefit...

took my daughter out to the range to sight in her 20 ga deer gun and a lot of shooters around, started to check out the brass buckets and low and behold a whole bunch of once fired 9mm and .45auto, don`t reload for either yet, but who knows in the future. This is the first brass in a long time I have found at our private club range.

Well last Monday night was meeting night at the range. The meeting ended early so on the way out the drive I stop at the pistol range and look in the trash can. Recently emptied but the bottom of the can was all brass colored. I could not reach in that far.:cuss: I think a bit, flip the can on it's side and crawl in using the headlights of the jeep and fill my brass sack. Couple of the others drive by and honk at me. The GF said I looked like a fat raccoon trying to find dinner.:D
300 45ACP
33 308
200+ 9MM
75 32 ACP
150 40 S&W
30 44 MAG
:D

I've only ever bought one box of 9mm. Ever. And I've never bought 9mm brass.

Most recent score was around 500 pieces of 223 brass. It was left by 4 guys shooting ARs next to me, and none of them wanted the brass. I could have kept the boxes too, but didn't feel like digging them out of the trash. Didn't need them anyway...

And I have several boxes of 38spl and maybe a box or two of 357, and I don't own or reload those calibers, but they make for good trades..

Got one of my best scores at the range today. 72 pieces of 6.8 SPC and 104 .45 ACP. I don't even own either, maybe I should.

I'm about to be a new reloader but I'm a cheap skate by nature, so before I even priced reloading presses, I was picking up brass until my range bag was full!

*swyped from the evo so excuse any typos*

I was at the indoor range a couple of weeks ago and a fellow and his wife were shooting next to me. They pulled out over 500 rounds of new Winchester nickel-plated .45 ACP rounds with the intent of firing them all off. I politely asked if they intended to collect their brass. They said no.

The wife says to me, “I hate it when people just grab your brass without asking so thank you and you are welcome all of it.”

There is just something about once fired Winchester Nickel-plated brass that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.:)

I only get excited when I find a lot of brass for the calibers I shoot a lot...... today was one of those days! I shoot at a private range where most shooters reload and pick up all their brass..... but today I got lucky, as someone must have been there shooting new toys they got for Christmas.... I got several boxes of .223, .308, and .45 ACP...... and it obviously is just once fired, as the empty ammo boxes were in the trash can.....

I've been run out of the local Forest Service ranges at night after being caught scrounging lead and brass. Reloadable brass is as good as money.

Got an even better score today. Came back with a Costco laundry soap bucket 2 inches deep in reloadable brass. Mostly .223, 38, 30-30, and 45 with some 9, 40, 25, 380 and 45 Colt mixed in. I only reload half of those.

There is a range out in the sticks where people can shoot 80 yards or so. I pull up one day, ready to shoot some .22, and what do I find?? The range is full of people. So, I wait in the A/C and about 20 minutes later, everyone leaves (4-5 people). I pull up...and I see gold. I forgot about shooting alltogether. There is a sea of gold colored metal laying on the ground. It took me almost an hour to pick it all up. I double bagged a grocery sack I had in the trunk, and I still ripped one handle. I never counted it up, but I completely filled a plastic bag from Wally World. I had an old shoebox in the truck. It was filled as well. I figure about 1000 pieces of .223, 200 pieces of .45 auto, 120 pieces of .308, 400 pieces of 9mm, and some .380, .44 mag, .22lr. I finished, my hands were very dirty, and I was thirsty. I drove to the local gas station to get some water and decided I had enough fun for the day. I went home and sorted brass for a few hours. Good stuff.
