Last weekend i was at a very large gun show here in Southwest Ohio (collectors meeting) Out of the whole show, this one revolver stuck with me and i kept going back to it. The gun was a Ruger Bisley Vaquero chambered in .44 Mag with a 4 5/8" barrel, blued case hardned. The owner was asking $475, i got him down to $400 and he accepted. I had a set of Grashorn Elk Stag grips i put on and it sure looks good. I think Ruger made the same gun in stainless, .44 Mag 4 5/8" so now i would like to find one. I think the one i just bought was made around 1999/2000 but not sure , and was wondering if anyone knows if the Bisley Vaquero .44 Mag in 4 5/8" was a low production run from Ruger? I only saw one of these at the show and i brought it home.
Thanks

You pretty much stole that puppy. I have never seen one in that caliber and length but Ruger has been doing a lot of the old S&W Gun of the Week production thing in the last year. Sounds like a very nice setup to me. I've been a Bisley fan for many years.

Ohio 58 we know that Ruger made at least 2 of them, yours and mine.

I cant imagine a finer working revolver than this. I shoot mid range handloaded .44 specials. Very pleasant and accurate load. Full house .44 mags while loud isn't that bad either. Really, this rig will cover anything you want to do from fun shooting, back woods loafing to fishing coastal waters.

I dont know how uncommon they are. I've never seen one listed at auction on the on-line auction houses so that should say something. It would take an awful lot to get mine. It is uncommon for a handgun to feel and be so perfect for me.

Enjoy your Bisquero, your gonna love it.

P.S. Since I posted earlier I've been doing some online mining. It is Rugers BNV-474 model. One online estimate was that around 1200 were made (1400 made in SS) making in the rarest in 4 5/8". A 2008 price of $695 for NIB was found.

Loosenock, thanks for that information, at least i know there is another one.
I think its going to be tough to find one in S.S. in .44 Mag 4 5/8" but I'll keep looking at the gun shows and online auctions. I will look up the BNV-474 model. I really like the feel of the Bisley grip. The wood grips that came on the gun are really nice but i decided to put a set of Patrick Grashorn Elk Stag grips on it. He is a great person to deal with and his work is very very nice with a perfect fit every time i buy a set from him. Im going to hang onto this Ruger.

There a case hardened ivory gripped Bisquero on GB right now. I don't know if it is an old vaquero or the new one. I've seen several over the past few months and they're all Davidson's guns. If it is the new vaquero, is that safe to shoot full power 44 mags?

Here is my stainless .44 Mag. 4 5/8"
I dovetailed a front sight that I could see, got rid of the billboard and tuned it up. Very accurate and wonderful packing gun.

If we both looked at the same one. The only Ivory handled Bisquero in .44 magnum I saw on GB was a 5 1/2" model. These are 4 5/8" Bisley old model Vaquero's. Good eye though, thanks.

How long ago was it when you sold yours? Must have been about 4 years ago I bought mine used. I paid $325.

Great looking rig. I've got to get busy and make myself a holster. I'll think I'll get started on it tomorrow. Thanks.

Good luck on your quest. It'll sure be worth the hunt if you can find one. When I was doing some research I came across an article where Elmer Keith tried and tried to get Colt to make a SA Bisley with short barrel in .44 mag for years. He was certain it would be the perfect revolver. Too bad this one came out 40 years after his passing. He was very pleased with the Ruger Super Blackhawk, he would have liked this one for sure.

ohio 58: I have one.Ruger only made 50 of each color.I have the one you are looking for.It costed me $590.Ruger Bisley Vaquero .44 mag.Chrome stainless.4 5/8.I could have bought a New Model Super Blackhawk for only $400 new in box.But this dam thing cought my eye and I had to have it.Sitting in the case all shiny.

Mine is an "old" Vaquero Bisley in .45 Colt with 5 1/2" barrel. Don't see them often and I jumped at $450 for mine. I don't like single-action grips but the Bisley is a whole other thing, I like it a lot. I'd prefer the .44 Mag for the option of magnums or .44 Specials, but on the other hand the .45 Colt can be loaded to a wide range of power and thus is nearly as flexible. Enjoy.

" and was wondering if anyone knows if the Bisley Vaquero .44 Mag in 4 5/8" was a low production run from Ruger?"

I would have to say yes, since I've been looking for the right one for over a year now!

I got to agree on the sights. My eyes could just not handle the hog wallow. Had a SW rear milled in and custom front from Alpha Precision. Jim also slicked her up a might. Shoots like a house afire now.

i bought my 4 5/8 bisquero last month for $450 from an acquaintance that called up randomly after a year ago last time i saw him he said he was thinking of selling it. he said hed sell it to me for what he was into it. included eagle oversize grips and galco holster and belt mountain locking base pin. no box

im happy with it. and the price i paid

i like those stag grips !

i may send to bowen for the tune up and black powder cylinder and free wheel

also be careful its not real case hardening and its a rust magnet if you expose it to moisture
