Hi all, I found black oxide starline brass for 460 mag. I have no experience with it other than I dislike nickle a lot. Any one have experience with Black brass that can chime in?

Hornady has some ammo with "black" brass as well. It wears off in the tumbler, just like nickle. (Nickle takes a lot of tumbling though.)

I bought 50 (or 100) of the Starline Black Oxide for 454 Casull - I have not used it yet. Still unsized in the box - but it looks good. Nothing more to add - yet :)

I have picked up some of the Browning black 9mm brass and reloaded it. One trip through the tumbler didn't hurt it. Seemed to take a little more effort on the reloader handle but otherwise no difference.
I presume this is the same as the black oxide brass mentioned?

Here is a pic of some RMR plated bullets that I blackened with Liver of Sulphur prior to loading them.

I like the look. I may blacken some of the cases next go'round just for fun. :)

Tidbit: The military sometimes blackened brass bits of kit like buckles & strap clips. By the time much of this stuff entered the surplus market the brass was suffering various degrees of verdigris. Both the verdigris and black can often be easily removed with an ammonia bath.

Just a gratuitous FYI ... ;)
