I have to buy for myself now since two wives have gone on to their reward.
They're not dead, but just moved away after the divorces. However, I talk to them monthly and both are miserable as hell. Somehow, this is more than enough reward for me.
Anyway, I got this early last week. I have lusted after this set since Colt first released it back in 1977. However, they were way beyond my means at the time. Suddenly after 36 years, these sets are popping up at auction almost weekly.
I'm guessing that most of the original buyers have passed on and their heirs are unloading them--and at a loss. I got this set for only 9% more than they were priced 36 years ago. Obviously, that means that they were a horrible investment (quite a few commemoratives are)
However, I didn't get it for an investment, and as Homer Simpson always says: "Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder!"
Here's the case. It's solid American walnut lined with cavalry blue velvet.
Inside are two 1860 Armies and shoulder stock--all with matched serial nos., Colt marked mold, flask, wrench, & cap tin.
Stock attached--I'll probably never shoot the Colts, but may try the stock out when I shoot my Pietta
Cheers
