I've got a black ring inside the chamber of my rifle it seems to have no texture as I run a plastic pick over it.

But that is what a gunsmith I know is telling me is the cause of my shells sticking after firing, he is also saying it is from the reamer that was used when that barrel was made. Also I'm no where near the max load.

The gun smith I took it too tried every solvent he had to brush/polish it out but was unsuccessful.

I'm not trying to over load you guys with info but in case anyone asks I tumble my brass after ever firing so they are clean.

I FL size all my brass and they chamber very well.

I do not cast my own bullets I use 168gr burger classic hunters.

Never jammed the bullet against the lans always 0.02" jump.

No signs of high pressure on the case or primer no case separation or primer flattening or cratering.

Has anyone ever seen this before and if so what was it from?

Caliber??

Find a bronze bore brush that is a good fit in the chamber.
Wrap it with 0000 Super-Fine steel wool.

Chuck a short section of cleaning rod in a drill and spin the brush up in the chamber while moving it in & out.

Whatever the black ring is will be gone.

But if it's actually a chamber reamer mark, it won't help much.

basically, if the reamer isn't cutting right, it can leave black marks like that in the chamber. most gunsmiths polish the chamber after cutting, which would remove most of those marks, so if it's still there, it maybe means it wasn't polished (which could leave it rough and cause brass to stick, maybe) or it's a really deep mark and will require more than polishing

i guess it could cause shells to stick, but i've never heard of that.

It is a 7mm rem mag and the black ring is about halfway between the back of the case and the shoulder.

I haven't tried the sand paper but the gunsmith I took it to used a brass brush on a drill already which made no difference, also I think that the chamber has been polished since the rest of it is a mirror finish.

Try this, use with caution. Get a bore brush that fits the chamber, wrap a cleaning patch around it and apply some 600 grit polishing compound on the patch. Chuck up the short section of cleaning rod and run the drill. Reverse the drill and polish in the other direction. Repeat as needed. Be Sure To Flush The Chamber And Barrel Completly Before Shooting!!!

If you MUST remove that dark ring in the chamber. I would recommend that you use RC's method. If it's still there...Forget it and keep shooting on.

shells sticking after firing 7mm Rem. Mag.

Full length sizing doesn't size all of the brass.

[/IMG] A powder charge may not be as light as you think. Some slow powders at reduced/starting loads can cause problems also. Post load data. Does factory ammo stick??

The gunsmith I know also offered to set it back and rechamber it so that is an option, as for the black ring I don't care that its there other than that's what he is saying is the cause for my cases sticking.

I do use that belt sizing die from Innovative Technologies.

As for load data I'v used
powders:
H1000, IMR 4350, Retumbo and H4831.
bullets:
berger 168gr, Hornady 162gr/139gr, Nosler 140gr and Speer 160gr.
shells:
Nosler, Federal and Remington
All 0.01"-0.05" jump to lans
Using Hodgdon site, RCBS reloading handbook, and lyman reloading handbook.
Many Many configurations.

And as I work up my loads I can see the groups are getting better and better but start sticking in the chamber around 3/4 of max load.

The gun is still under warranty so if this is a reamer problem Remington said they would replace it but first have to inspect it.

The reamer was either damaged or a chip got under a flute and caused the ring. The last one that I saw was in a.243 where the reamer had a small chip in one of the flutes. If this is the problem only rechambering it with a good reamer will fix it.

Okay thanks I hope the people at Remington will come to the same conclusion and I'll try to get a new one on warranty.

If warranty wasn't an option Id try some other alternatives you guys offered thanks for the info everyone.
