Just a quick(unscientific) test of my carry ammo.

CCI Maxi-Mag TNT 30gr. jhp fired into 2 2-liter soda bottles filled with water.

Bullet competely penetrated first bottle and was recovered from the second.

Expansion .324"
Weight 29.9 gr.

Hey, lookit that!

Betcha what we have here is more or less a functional duplicate of 32ACP ball ammo, in terms of penetration and expansion. Might do a bit more damage...the nose shape would be nastier than ball and the velocity at least 300fps higher.

Which isn't half bad, for a much smaller and more reliable gun, and WAY more accurate than most small slideguns, that can also shoot 22LR for practice dirt cheap.

Just fired my 1st box of ammo out of my Kel-Tec .380, had a lot of failures to extract. Hopefully this will subside when the gun gets broken in, for this will be my main carry. Seems like it shoots closer to point of aim than the P-32, mine shoots about 3" high at 7 yards. Going tomorrow to sight my Ruger 77 in at 100 yards and run another 50 rounds through the 3-A-T.

wow, :what: i'm gona have to get some of those for my ruger single six. they might even have more punch with the add barrel length:D

Regarding Keltec .380

Hi pistolero,

And, welcome to this fine board.

Try some different ammo. One of my son's 3ATs was sensitive to some ammo but neither of mine are. I inherited his ammo and it works fine in mine. I have tried about a dozen different kinds of .380 in my Keltec and all but two work very well.

There are lots of case-lots of military surplus .380 on the market right now, most of it works for me.

Cosmose: yes, you WILL get more punch. A lot more. These suckers are going almost an extra 100fps for every inch of barrel added, at least out to 4" (NAA's max is 4", the MiniMaster) where it does 1,400fps. Figure 1,500+ in a Single Six.

Now look at that pic again. The round is nowhere NEAR the "come unglued" point. That little booger is good for several hundred more FPS before significantly fragmenting.

At some point, the tougher original formula +V would be a better choice. Dunno where that point is though...somewhere between 6" and 9" would be my guess, from a 9" barrel Single Six that TNT might come apart. That's based on that pic, guesstimating how much more speed would make the "mushroom" come apart. But it's pure guess without test data.

I fired a CCI Maxi-Mag +V (the non-TNT type) out of my 5.5" Single Six (this load weight in at 1546 average fps out of this gun!!!) into 2-gallon milk-style jugs full of water. The jugs were filled to the brim and capped and place so they touched each other and the shot was fired through the center of the non-handled part of the jug. The bullet passed through the first two jugs and was recovered from the third. For comparison on the same day a 115 grain winchester white box JHP 9mm from my BHP penetrated the first jug and dented a hole in, but did not exit the back side of the second jug (for further comparison a mag-tech 240 grain soft point from my 7.5" .44 mag vaquero turns six of the jugs into a localized rainstorm :) ).

The recovered .22 mag (which I sadly did not bring back to measure and weigh) was knocked completely pancake flat. Like I'd run over it with a train. I did not find any other bullet fragments in the three jugs it passed through.

The "shock" effects were not as great as the 9mm. The 9mm split the first jug in half where as the .22mag only caused a slight tear and made clean in and out holes on the second and third jug. (The .44 mag reduced the first two jugs to confetti, sent the next three about five feet into the air (according to an eye witness, the wall of water that hit me as I stood five feet back from the jugs caused me to miss most of what happened) and knocked the sixth off the back of the table with two very large holes in the front and back. :) )

I agree, I'll have to try those out of my Ruger as well!! First time I seen those shells.

Here are some Chrony numbers I clocked last week

Win Supreme 34 g...r 1125 fps adv.
Others were CCI +v 30 gr....1150......
Win Dynapoint 45 gr.........850...........
CCI maxi mag 40 gr...........890.........
Win std load 40 gr .........1000......

CCI TNT, 30 gr pill at 1230 fps adv. from the BW.
The Win Supreme jammed on a case. weak brass no doubt.
Love the TNT
Never found a reliable pocket auto, so the BW is it.

Jody Hudson, just finished running a box of PMC through the 3-A-T and did not have 1 extraction problem. Must have been the CCI Blazers. Will run 2 more boxes through it before I start carrying it. Also will try to get a spare magazine this weekend at the gun show. It really shoots dead on at 7 yards. Better than the P-32.

I bought a box of 500 gold dots for my 3AT from Ammoman.com and they shoot great out of my gun. I have not had any extraction or feeding problems so far. I've also shot the UMC ammo from my gun. The only thing I did was clean it and polish the ramp and chamber when I bought the gun. Very accurate and dependable. Nice to have in the pocket when dress doesn't allow the 357 Sig. GS
